• 3. Run the XPM Application

Windows XP Mode (XPM) is an application that runs Windows XP in Windows 7 Based on Virtual PC technology, in this way, if you want to run applications such as IE6, you do not need to enter the virtual machine. It is also convenient for Web developers to perform tests. It can also solve some Windows 7 software incompatibility problems.

Note:: Before using XPM, you can check whether your machine supports virtualization. You can test the security software. If No is found in the second or third items in the test results, the machine does not support virtualization, you don't have to download the XPM program. If option 2 is Yes and option 3 is Locked ON, it indicates Yes. If option 2 is Locked Off, the virtualization function is disabled. You can upgrade the BIOS to support this function.

Download the new version of Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx.

 

1. Install Windows Virtual PC (VPC)

Run the program Windows6.1-KB958559-x86.msu for installation.

2. Install and run Windows XP Mode

Run windowsxpmode_en-us.exe to install the program.

Click Finish to start running Windows XP Mode:

Windows XP Mode has been started, but it is actually a Windows XP Virtual Machine. It is characteristic that there is no need to switch the mouse repeatedly between the virtual machine and Win7 (good !).

If you have installed a Virtual machine with Virtual PC 2007, you can run it directly through Windows Virtual PC and upgrade it to a new Virtual machine program without re-creation. Now XPM has been deployed.

After VPC and XPM are installed, the "Windows Virtual PC" option is added to the menu (do not worry about the "Windows XP Mode Applications" option ):

3. Run the XPM Application

If XPM is in the startup status, please first put its Shut down... ...

Go to the Windows Virtual PC menu, run the Windows Virtual PC program, right-click Windows XP Mode. vmcx, and select Settings:

Make sure that "Automatically Publish virtual applications" in the "Auto publish" option is selected:

Run IE6 in Windows 7, Start XPM, and create IE6 shortcut in XP Virtual Machine C: \ Documents ents and Settings \ All Users \ Start Menu \ Programs:

After creating a shortcut, check whether the menu bar of Windows 7 has changed:

You can see that the "Windows XP Mode Applications" option is added in the Windows Virtual PC menu, and Internet Explorer (Windows XP Mode) is included in it. Then, IE6 will be run in Windows 7, let's take a photo of IE6 and IE8:

In this way, you can run any Windows XP program in Windows 7. install an Office 2003 in XPM to see If Windows 7 has changed:

The above test environment is Windows 7 Ultimate RC,Note:: Windows XP Mode only supports Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 7 Enterprise operating systems, and Windows XP Mode RC can only run on Windows 7 RC operating systems.
