With XP has been a long time, I tried and sorted out a lot of very interesting registry modification skills, here to write to you for reference. When it comes to registry modifications, there is always a word to be said: Be cautious. Must be backed up before modification, one step error may make your machine over face not. In the following narrative, if the specified location does not have the key/value mentioned here, then you have to create a new one yourself. Unless otherwise noted, all of the values mentioned here are REG_DWORD types.
One, improve the response speed of XP
Locate the Hkey_current_usercontrol Paneldesktop subkey and modify the Hungapptimeout value. Hungapptimeout value indicates that the system requires the user to manually end the time limit of the suspended task, the default value of 5000, the type is REG_SZ, reducing this value can reduce the system in some special circumstances of the response delay, for example, you can set this value to 1000. When you adjust this key value, you should note that if some software is running slowly on your system, setting the key value too small may cause XP to mistakenly believe that the running software has been suspended. If this happens, you can incrementally increase the Hungapptimeout value by 1000 each time until XP no longer mistakenly thinks that the running software is "stop responding".
Second, improve the "Start" Menu submenu display speed
Decrease Menushowdelay Value (IBID.). The value type is REG_SZ, default 400, which can be set to 50. If you set this value too small, such as 0, the submenu will immediately appear when the mouse pointer passes over the menu, interfering with the user's choice of operation. After testing, set to 50 can not only make the submenu appear as soon as possible, but also to avoid the rapid jump out of the submenu to interfere with the view.
Third, reduce the browse LAN delay time
and Windows 20,001, XP has an annoying latency problem while browsing the LAN, but it's hard to find information about the problem. If you browse a win 9x machine, for example, enter "\ComputerName" in the address bar of the Network Neighborhood, the XP machine checks "Task Scheduler" on the machine on which it is connecting. This search process can cause up to 30 seconds of latency. If you open a shared resource directly, such as entering "\computernameshare" in the address bar of your network Neighborhood, there is no such delay. To avoid the XP search "Task Scheduler" operation, improve the speed of browsing the network, you can delete Hkey_local_ machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionexplorerremotecomputernamespace{ D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} child keys. The type of the key is REG_SZ.

V. Show hidden files
Under Hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrent versionexploreradvanced subkeys, there are several values that affect the display of hidden files and folders. To have XP display hidden files and folders, set the hidden to 1. To display the file name extension, set the Hidefileext to 0. To display the protected operating system file, set the ShowSuperHidden to 1. Note: This section of the settings can also be modified through the View tab of the Folder Options dialog box.
Vi. displaying a button for a mapped network drive
Locate the Hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionexploreradvanced subkey and set the MAPNETDRVBTN to 1. The button that maps the network drive appears on Windows Explorer and the toolbar of my computer.
Seven, clean up the "Start" menu

Clear the virtual memory paging file at shutdown
This modification of the registry is primarily for data security, but is of little practical significance in many contexts. Find the Hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetcontrolsession managermemory management subkey, Set the ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 1.
Ten, run the program in different memory space
Find the Hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionpoliciesexplorer subkey and set the Memcheckboxinrundlg to 1, "Start" menu " The Run dialog box adds a "Run in separate memory space" option.
Finally, don't forget to use the XP Registry Editor's Favorites feature. You can use the "Favorites" feature to mark a location in the regedit, and you don't have to go down one level to find the subkey. To do this: run regedit, locate the target key (for example, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows), select the subkey (such as CurrentVersion) to which you want to add Favorites, click the Menu "Favorites Add to Favorites, take an easy to remember name for the Favorites folder, and click OK. It is recommended that you use a naming scheme that will help you identify the location of the subkeys, such as "HKLM ..." CurrentVersion ", or" HKLMSMSWINCV ".
