A new Windows Kernel 0-day vulnerability is being used to attack Windows XP users. Microsoft has confirmed the vulnerability and issued a security warning. This Local Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability is combined with an Adobe Reader vulnerability to intrude into Windows XP machines. The Vulnerable Adobe Reader versions include 9.5.4, 10.1.6, and 11.0.02. This Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary code in kernel mode, including installing malicious programs, browsing, modifying or deleting data, and creating accounts with full management permissions. Security Companies recommend that Windows XP users upgrade Adobe Reader to the latest version and to a newer operating system.
