Wireless Broadband AP Configuration

The AP configuration of wireless broadband is an important part in the networking process. This article will introduce you to the detailed and comprehensive AP configuration process.

Before configuring a Wireless AP, you should know that there are two AP usage methods in a wireless LAN:

The first is the point-to-point connection solution. When the two local networks are hard to connect using optical fiber or twisted pair wires, point-to-point wireless connection can be used. You only need to install an AP in each CIDR block to achieve point-to-point connection between CIDR blocks, or to expand the wired trunk.

The second is the point-to-point multi-point connection solution. That is to say, the AP is used as a HUB, and the machines in the LAN are connected. The operation method between each other is no different from that of the general LAN!

Because today's wireless networks require the roaming function, I use point-to-point methods for all APs. Next, let's talk about AP roaming settings: we only need to set a uniform SSID and a uniform WEP, and use different channels and different IP addresses, the last IP address segment allocated by each AP must be separated. For example, the first IP address segment is 192.168.1.10 --- 192.168.1.30, and the second IP address segment is 192.168.1.50 --- 192.168.1.100. Finally, we also need to set the laptop wireless network card to "any available network preferred access point)" option, so that the notebook can be roaming in the wireless LAN.

Now let's start setting up the AP! To set up an AP, you must connect your computer and AP to a network cable through the WEB management interface. The default IP address of the Wireless AP used by the author is 192.168.1.1, And the IP addresses of different brands of APs may be different sometimes. This requires you to confirm when purchasing the AP or understand the instructions. Now I set the gateway in my local machine to "192.168.1.1", and then set the IP address to 192.168.1.x. After the configuration is complete, we enter "http: // 192.168.1.1 ". You will soon see the AP setting interface !!

Initial AP login page

Click "Information" To View Details. Click the "SETUP" button to go to the settings page.

Set SSID

The first step is to set the network name SSID), which is equivalent to a "Working Group". Each AP connected Wireless network can only use this SSID, and the default status is "Wireless ", you can change it to another name. Here I set it to "YANG01". "channel" is the channel selection. There are 13 channels in total. This setting is only available when there are many wireless devices, the author sets the four APS as "7", "9", "11", and "13"; the following are the "IP address" IP addresses) and "subnetmask" subnet masks respectively) and "default gateway" gateway), you can set according to your network conditions. If you want to connect a wireless network to an existing wired LAN, the available IP address in the wired LAN is 192.168.1.8, The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, And the gateway is 192.168.1.1, you only need to fill in according to these values, the wireless network of the Wireless AP can be connected to the existing wired network to share various resources. After the settings are complete, remember to press the APPLY button. Otherwise, your settings will not work.

Another menu connection is "SECURITY". Like "INFO", you only need to click the "SETUP" button to enter the setting interface.

Set WEP

SECURITY also includes two options: "WEP" and "MAC access ". WEP is the most common encryption method for 802.11b wireless networks. WEP has 64-bit and-bit encryption bits, and the key input can also use ASCII characters) and Hex hexadecimal). When 64bit WEP encryption is adopted, you can enter 5 characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9) or 10 hexadecimal numbers (a-f ", "A-F" and "0-9"); and when you choose 128 bit WEP encryption, you can enter 13 characters optional "a-z", "A-Z" and "0-9 ") or 26 hexadecimal numbers can be a-f, A-F, and 0-9 ").

After WEP encryption is set, you need to enter the key when logging on to the network, but we do not need it at the initial stage of debugging. After network debugging is complete, we log on to the AP management interface of the wireless network again through the IE browser, find the security option, and choose to enable the WEP encryption function. This function is usually disabled in the factory settings of the wireless network node ), enter a hexadecimal character that must be 0-9 or a-f) as the encrypted string. If the character is lost, you cannot connect to the wireless network node ), save the settings and restart the wireless network node.

After the restart, the wireless network card cannot be connected to the Wireless AP. In this case, you need to modify the "wireless network connection attribute ". Click "properties" of "Network neighbors" to go to the "Wireless Network Connection Properties" page, and then select "wireless network configuration ". Find Your Wireless AP in the available network. If there are no other wireless network nodes nearby, only one network should be listed here. Otherwise, other nearby wireless networks will also be listed. Next, click "attribute" to enable "Data Encryption WEP, enter the encrypted string in the "Network key" and "Confirm network key" columns below, and click "OK, the wireless network adapter can be correctly connected to the wireless network node. However, this is all an afterthought.

Wireless Network Properties

After setting the above SSID, WEP, and IP, press the APPLY button to complete the setting of the Wireless AP. Click Save & Restart to Restart the AP! Wait about 30 seconds! It should be noted that the LAN network cable connected to the AP must be connected to the AP's "wan" port, and the "LAN" interface on the back of the AP is used to connect to the wired LAN, if you don't have one, you can leave it empty. Do not get it wrong!
