Word 2003 Document page numbering in chapter

Word's skills are very diverse, and today we'll talk about how to do page numbering.

If you have 10 chapters in a Word document, when the final page numbering is to be arranged in a separate chapter, such as 5 pages in the first chapter, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 and 1-5 respectively, and the second chapter has 30 pages, respectively 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 ... 2-30, and the third chapter with 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 ... Say, do you know how to get word to do it automatically? Let's do the following together:

1, the document entry, proofreading, at the end of each chapter, insert a section break: Click insert → separator, in the Open Separator dialog box, under section break type, select Next, and then click OK to exit, as shown in Figure 1.

2, click anywhere in Chapter One, then click view → header and footer, open the Header and Footer toolbar, and click the toggle between Headers and footers button to switch to footer, as shown in Figure 2.

Click the Format Page Number button, as shown in Figure 3, in the Open Page Number Format dialog box, set the Start page number to 1, the top number format item does not change, and click OK to return, as shown in Figure 4.

3, enter 1 in the footer-, and then click the Insert Page Number button, as shown in Figure 5.

Select 1-1 in the footer, and then click the Center button in the Formatting toolbar to finally center the page number, as shown in Figure 6. The Close button in the Header and Footer toolbar exits.

4, click anywhere in Chapter Two, and then click view → headers and footers, and then click the toggle between Headers and footers button in the Open Header and Footer toolbar to switch to a footer. You will find the word "same as previous" in the upper-right corner of the footer border, and then click the link to Previous button, as shown in Figure 7.

5, click the "Format page numbering" button, also in the Open Page Number Format dialog box, the "Start Page number" set to 1, click OK to return, then delete the displayed page number "1-1" in the footer, re-enter the 2-, click the Insert Page Number button, and then click the Close button to exit.

6. Follow the steps of steps 4th and 5th to set the page number of the remaining chapters.
