When you insert a picture in a Word 2007 document, the size of the picture makes the file size of the Word document large. Even if you change the size of a picture in a Word document or crop a picture, the size of the picture does not change. However, users can compress all the pictures in Word document or selected pictures in Word 2007, which can reduce the size of the picture effectively, and also reduce the size of the word file. To compress a picture in a Word 2007 document, the following steps are described:
Step 1th, open the Word 2007 document window and select the picture you want to compress. If you have more than one picture that you want to compress, you can click multiple pictures while holding down the CTRL key.
Step 2nd, open the Word 2007 Picture Tools Ribbon, and click the Compress Picture button in the adjustments group on the Format tab, as shown in the figure.

Step 3rd, open the Word 2007 Compress Pictures dialog box, select the Apply to selected pictures only check box, and click OK to compress the pictures in the Word 2007 document, as shown in the figure.
