XML and XSLT are supported in almost all major browsers.

Mozilla Firefox

Starting with version 1.0.2, Firefox has started supporting XML and XSLT (including CSS).

Mozilla

Mozilla contains expat for XML parsing and supports the display of XML + CSS. Mozilla also has some support for namespaces.

Mozilla can also do the execution of XSLT (XSLT implementation).

Netscape

Since version 8, Netscape has started using Mozilla's engine, so its support for XML/XSLT is the same as Mozilla's.

Opera

Since version 9, Opera has been able to support XML/XSLT (and CSS). Version 8 supports only XML + CSS.

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer has been supporting XML, namespaces, CSS, XSLT, and XPath since version 6.

Note: Internet Explorer 5 also has support for XML, but the XSL section is not compatible with the official standards of the Consortium!

viewing XML files

The original XML files can be viewed in the following browsers: Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, and Netscape 6+.

However, if you need to display XML as a Web page, you need to add some display information.

viewing XML files

In Firefox and Internet Explorer:

Open the XML file-the XML document will appear as the code-color root and child elements. You can expand or close the structure of an element by clicking the plus or minus sign on the left side of the element. To view source code without + and-symbol, choose View Source from the browser menu.

In Netscape 6:

Open the XML file, and then right-click in the XML file and select View Source code. The XML document is displayed as the root and child element of the code color.

In Opera 7 and 8:

In Opera 7, open the XML file, then right-click in the XML file and choose Frame/View Source. The XML document will appear as plain text. In Opera 8: Open the XML file, then right-click in the XML file and select Source. The XML document will appear as plain text.

Why does XML display this way?

The XML document does not carry information about how to display the data.

Because XML tags are "invented" by the author of an XML document, browsers cannot determine whether a label like <table> actually describes an HTML table or a table.

In the absence of any information about how to display data, most browsers simply display XML documents as source code.
