Users often use printers to print some files, but a company often has a limited number of printers, so allowing printers to share on a local area network can improve the convenience of workers. The following sections will guide users on how to share settings for a printer.
First, configure the printer
In Control Panel, open Printers and Faxes, select "Add Printer" on the left option or right-click;
2) Click "Next" (
3) then click "Next"; Note: You must not select the "Automatically detect and install Plug and Play printers" check box in the image above
4 to do as the above figure selected, click "Next";
6 fill in the information and click "Next"; Note: "200.1.1.11" is the IP address you set for the print server, "port name" where you enter the port name you set for the print server or use the default value (ip_200.1.1.11: The IP address of the print server)
7) Click "Next".
According to the actual situation to make a choice and then click "Next"; Note: Select the printer manufacturer and model that you want to connect to on the corresponding port of the print server (the port selected in the step above);
9 after the completion of the click "Next", according to the prompts to correctly install the printer driver can be.
Second, the sharing printer
This step is the key, is related to the "a computer" on the printer can give "B computer" sharing the use of the problem, I hope we pay careful attention.
1. After the print driver is installed, the printer icon that has been properly installed appears in the folder "Start Menu" → "settings" → "printers". Right-click on this flag, select Share, and on the Sharing tab, on the share as, in share name, fill in the name you want to share, such as: ZXB.
2. At this point you should be able to see the printer icon and other shared settings, the icon will be added a small hand. If you see the small hand of the printer, it means that the printer has been shared successfully.
Third, configure Network sharing protocol
To enable shared printing, computers in a local area network must have a "File and Printer Sharing protocol" installed.
1. Click Network Neighborhood on the desktop, then click the right mouse button, open the Network dialog window, and then click File and Printer Sharing.
2. In the File and Print Sharing dialog box that pops up, select the check box for allow other users to access my files (F) and allow other computers to use my printer (P), and then click OK.
3. The system will prompt you to insert Windows System installation disk, after specifying a good installation directory, will begin to automatically install files and Printer sharing agreement. After the installation is complete, the system automatically requires that the computer be restarted and the new shared settings take effect after the reboot.
Iv. installation and configuration of the client
A computer on the work we have basically completed, the following will need to share the printer B computer Configuration. Every computer in the network that wants to use a shared printer must have a print driver installed.
1. Click start → settings → printers, and then double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer Wizard and click Next. When the wizard asks your computer how to connect to the printer, select the "Network printer" option (Note: This example is about a common printer sharing on the network, so it is not really a network printer), click "Next".
2. Enter the network path for the printer below. Here we can enter the network path "AHP" for the shared printer using the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format that accesses the network resources (OA is the user name of Computer a). You can also click the Browse button to find a shared printer in your workgroup, select the computer that has the printer installed (such as: 0A), click the "OK" button after selecting the printer, select the network path for the printer, and click "Next".
3. Then the system will you enter the printer name again, after entering, click the "Next" button, and then press the "Completion" button, if the other set the password, here is required to enter a password. Finally, add the HP DeskJet 200 icon to the printer window, where our network printer is already installed.
b Computer on the printer driver has been installed, the following will be configured for the Network sharing protocol, the specific configuration method and just a computer on the "Configuration Network sharing agreement", here will not repeat. Finally, we can open the Start menu, "settings" → "printer", you will see the installed "Network printer" logo.
Five, printer sharing trouble shooting
In Windows XP, there are a number of reasons why you can't share a printer, and at this point, are you at your wits end? To solve the problem, let's take a look at the problems that are most likely to occur when sharing printers in Windows XP and how to fix them.
1, network neighbors can not view the normal
To share a printer in Windows XP, the first thing to do is not to install the network printer directly on the workstation, but to first look at the View workgroup computer item in My Network Places to see if the computer that has the printer installed (the print server) is available. If you can find a print server, the basic conditions for sharing a printer are available, and if an error occurs, you should resolve the problem first.
Solution: In the Confirmation LAN workgroup name consistent premise, enter the Local Area Connection Properties window, click the "Install" button to add "NWLink Ipx/spx/netbios Compatible Transport Protocol" protocol, You can resolve this problem without restarting the workgroup computer or by clicking the "View workgroup Computer" Item, "There is no permission to browse So-and-so workgroup ...".
2. The workstation does not search for a shared printer
This is the most common problem for most local area network users when they install shared printers on a Windows XP workstation, typically by showing only "Microsoft Windows network" Information in the list of shared printers, while shared printers are not searched.
Solution: There are three ways to solve this problem. The first is that after the "NWLink Ipx/spx/netbios Compatible Transport Protocol" protocol is installed for "Local Area Connection", it is usually possible to search for a shared printer, and the second is to directly double-click the Network Places to enter the print server, Right-click on the Shared printer icon, select "Connect" in the pop-up shortcut menu, click "Yes" in the pop-up box to quickly install the shared printer; third, check that the print server's local connection has the Internet Connection Firewall feature enabled, and if it does, cancel the feature, If you want to use the Internet Connection Firewall feature and you want to share files and printers, install the NetBEUI protocol (non-routing protocol).
3, the workstation has no driver to install the printer
Typically, the network administrator needs to transfer the driver files for the shared printer to the workstation to install the shared printer driver on the workstation. But if there are dozens of workstations to do this, it will make network managers feel headache.
Solution: There are two ways for everyone to choose. The first is to use Windows XP to install the "other drivers" method to resolve. For example, to install the Lenovo 6110 printer, assuming that there are 20 Windows 98 workstations, first install the 6110 for 98 drive on any workstation, and then copy the Lgbcpr.inf file from the workstation "C:windowsinf" directory to the print server. Next, go to the print server's Shared printer Properties window, click the "Other Drivers" button in the "Sharing" tab Setup interface, check the "Intel Windows 95, 98, and Me" entry in the pop-up dialog box, and then specify the location of the "Lgbcpr.inf" file. When prompted to specify the "Lexgo.exe" file, specify the "driverswin_9xlexgo.ex_" file in the drive disk, and the system will automatically replicate the required driver files. Once replicated, user-supplied drivers are no longer required to install shared printers on other workstations. However, this approach is cumbersome, and it is difficult for beginners to determine what files are required in the process.
A more recommended method is the second, "Map Network Drive" method. This method is easy to use when all printer shares are shared. For example, to install the Epson Lq-1600kⅲ printer, first share the printer driver files on the print server. Then go to the print server in the workstation's Network Neighborhood, locate and select the shared printer driver file, click the "Map Network Drive" menu item, and then click the "OK" button in the drive list. Then, when you need to provide a driver file for the shared printer, manually specify the mapped drive and, as prompted, quickly complete the drive installation.
