There are four ways to create polygon groups in ZBrush using polygon groups: Auto Group [automatic groups]; UV Groups [UV Group]; Group Visible [visual groups] and material Groups [material groups]. This article will introduce each of the four methods.
The auto Group is about to create a new group for each of the separate polygon objects.
Creating automatic Groups
1. Press Transform>polyframe to see the group information, as shown in the following figure (left);
2. Press the Tool>polygroup>autogroup button, as shown in the following figure (right).
The UV group actually creates a new group based on each UV information for the model.
The visual Group Visual group creates the visual part of the grid as a group, which is often used to create your own group information.
Create your own group
1. Make sure your model is in the editing mode on the canvas;
2. Press Ctrl+shift and drag to select the box in your model. Please note: You must activate the lasso (Lasso) button before opening the Transform>lasso, 4R7 version does not require this action.
3. When you select the area on the good model, release the Ctrl+shift, which hides the area of the box you are drawing.
4. Press the Transform>polygroups>group visible button.
5. Press Ctrl+shift and click the left mouse button to show the entire model in the part outside the model, repeat the above operation again.
The material Group Material group builds the group according to the basic material of the model (these materials can be specified by other 3D software). The obj file format exported by the model can maintain material information specified by other software.
To do this, you must open the Preferences>importexport>import mat option before you import the grid. A material group is useful for transferring group information from other software to ZBrush.
