Should I use the backup and restore feature or another packaging feature?

There are three different functions for packaging websites: In Office Sharepoint designer 2007, you can back up a website or create a web package, and save the website as a website template in a browser. Which function you choose depends on what you want to achieve.

Web package (. fwp file)This feature can be used when you want to share or reuse web pages, websites, lists, or library structures. Back up website

Backup files do not include workflows, notifications, and attributes stored at the website set level.

To back up a website, you must have administrator privileges for the website, but you do not need to have administrative access to the server running Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

Restore a website

Step 1: Create a blank website as the target website
