Start FrontPage XP, select Menu "File/new", and then click the Web page or site command option. In the new page or Web task pane, click Web Site template in new from template.

In the Open Web Site Templates window, click the browse button below the Specify a location for new sites text box to select a folder to save your site on your local hard disk. The Site tab on the left provides templates for more than one site, at which point you can select the template type according to your needs, select the personal site template, and click OK when you are done. The system begins to create the entire site, including various page and page themes, and gives a prompt dialog box to show progress.

use of navigation views

Click the navigation button on the left side of the edit window to enter the Navigation view of FrontPage XP, where you can overview the overall layout of your site, organize your Web pages, create a navigation structure for your current site, and so on.

First we execute the menu "View/Folder" command to open the Folder List window and then create a new page in the root directory of the site. Right-click, execute New/web Page command, and name this page new.htm (Figure 1).

When you're done, switch to Navigation view, and now you want to add the page you just created to the current navigation structure. Click the page in the Folder list, and then drag it to the desired location in the structure, such as under interest (Figure 2). If you want to modify the title of this page, you can modify the name of the current page by right-clicking the page and then clicking Rename on the shortcut menu.

In Navigation view, you can also move any page within the Web site to your own needs. To move a Web page, click the page, and then drag it below or next to another page. If you plan to remove a page from the Navigation view, click the page and press the Del button.

Create a site structure directory

We can create a site directory based on the navigation structure of the site, which can also contain hyperlinks to pages that are not in the navigation structure.

First open the page you just created new.htm, switch to the page view, place the insertion point where you want to create the directory, and then perform the Insert/web Component command, in the Open dialog box, select Directory (Figure 3), and in the right pane, select "This Web site" and click the Finish button.

After entering the Directory Properties dialog box, enter the URL of the page that is the starting point of the table of contents in the Directory Start Page box, for example, enter index.htm to make the catalog from the homepage of the site, and then click OK when you are done to generate a site directory on the current page.

Design a site counter

Counters can count and display the number of times a Web page has been accessed. The way to add a counter to a Web page is to open the site's home page index.htm in Web pages, place the insertion point where you want to place the counter, then perform the Insert/web Component command, select counters in the left pane, select the counter style in the right pane, and then click Finish button into the Counter Parameter Settings dialog (Figure 4), select a counter picture style, if you want to set the counter to a specific number, you can select the Reset count to option and enter a number. To display a fixed digit number in a counter, you can select the fix number of digits option and set the corresponding value. When you click the "OK" button, the placeholder for the counter is displayed on the page.

It is important to note that counters are available only after publishing to the site, and that the site must be published to a Web server that has FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Team Services installed. This allows you to use the FrontPage custom counters normally.

Site Publishing

We can use the FrontPage XP Publishing site feature to publish our web site to an HTTP or FTP server, and here's how to publish to an FTP server, for example.

Execute the main menu file/Publish Site command, in the Publish Destination dialog box, enter the URL address for the FTP server, and then click OK to enter your username and password in the next dialog box and make sure that FrontPage can begin publishing the current Web site to the server. A Publishing Site dialog box will also appear.
