Install centos Linux 5.3 on a hard disk in Windows

 

 

1. Open the image file CentOS-5.3-i386-bin-DVD.iso (My centos image file is placed on disk D), find the isolinux directory, right-click to select "extract to the specified folder", select disk D, OK. Go to the D:/solinux directory and retain only the initrd. IMG and vmlinuz files. delete all the other files. (If other files are retained, installation and exit may occur)

[Note] My d drive is in NTFS format. The system prompts that the image file cannot be found before the installation starts. Therefore, the partition tool Norton partitionmagic is used to convert the D disk to the FAT32 format.

 

 

2. Run "C:/boot. ini" with the win + r key and press Enter. The content of my boot. ini file is as follows:

[Boot loader]
Timeout = 30
Default = multi (0) disk (0) RDISK (0) Partition (1)/Windows
[Operating systems]
Multi (0) disk (0) RDISK (0) Partition (1)/Windows = "Microsoft Windows XP Professional"/noexecute = optin/fastdetect

Add the following line at the end of the file, save and exit.

C:/grldr = "Install centos Linux"

 

3. Download grub4dos, decompress it, and add grldr, grldr. MBR, and menu. lst to the C root directory. (Grub4dos-0.4.4-2009-01-11.zip)

 

 

4. Run "C:/menu. lst" with the win + r key (some may be C:/GRUB/menu. lst)

Add the following at the end of the file: (put my image file on disk D, that is,/dev/hda5)

Title install centos Linux

Root (hd0, 1)

Kernel/isolinux/vmlinuz Ro root =/dev/hda5

Initrd/isolinux/initrd. img

 

[Note] If the image file is placed on an edisk, the second and third lines on the disk must be modified accordingly.

5. Restart your computer and select the menu to start installation. Select hard drive and/dev/hda5 before installation ".
