JSON is a data interchange format

JSONP is a data exchange protocol

JSONP (JSON with Padding) is meant to allow all browsers to be called across domain names.

Client adds a callback parameter to the URL
JSONP encapsulates the JSON request into a JavaScript function, which is sent back to the browser as a script. When the client loads, the script is not constrained by the same-origin policy, and functions like the JSON object in it.
