Generally, linux files do not have an extension. We learned from the previous study that whether a linux file can be executed is related to the 10 attributes in the first column of the file, and has nothing to do with the file name. In Windows systems, the extension name of the file is very important, and the extension name of the execution file is usually .exe \. com \. bat, and so on. In linux, as long as the attribute contains x, the file can be executed.

However, the execution can be different from the execution success. Whether the file can be successfully executed depends on the specific content of the file.

Although the extension does not actually help in linux, we can understand the file content through the extension. Therefore, linux usually uses the appropriate extension to indicate the file type, the following lists several common file extensions:

*. Sh -- batch processing file (scripts, script). Because the batch processing file is written in shell, the extension is. sh;

*. Z, *. tar, * .tar.gz, *. zip, *. tgz --: After the compressed files are packaged, the related extensions are obtained based on different compression software;

*. Html, *. php --: webpage-related files.

Generally, the file name in linux is only used to facilitate understanding the possible usage of the file. Whether the file is executed or not still requires attribute specifications! If the execution attribute of an executable file is removed, the file cannot be executed. When copying or downloading a file, the attributes of the file may change. In actual use, pay attention to the attributes of the file.

In linux, the name of each file or directory can contain a maximum of 255 characters, and the full path can contain a maximum of 4096 characters. The file name is quite long. Many files have long names to show users the purpose of the file. For those who are used to windows systems, it may not be a habit at the beginning, you can use the [TAB] command and file name fill key to reduce keyboard input and input errors.
