This blog post helps resolve common configuration issues with Microsoft Cloud Backup solutions (that is, Azure backup). Customers typically experience these issues when installing or registering Azure backup. Here are some suggestions on how to diagnose and fix the problem.

Azure Backup installation failed with the "invalid property specified for selected installation folder" display.

When you try to install Azure Backup Agent in a folder that has the "System", "Hidden", "compressed", or "Encrypted" properties, the "Invalid properties specified for the selected installation folder" message is displayed.
Please delete the "System", "Hidden", "compressed", or "Encrypted" properties on the installation folder. Here are step-by-steps instructions on how to remove folder properties.

1. Please refer to the Knowledge Base article to remove encryption properties from file and folder encryption in Windows. These steps also apply to the server.

2. Please refer to the TechNet document compression and decompression folder and files, unzip the folder to remove the compression properties on the folder.

3. Refer to the TechNet document volume properties to delete hidden/read-only properties on the folder.

4. If the Azure Backup installation folder location has system properties, create a new folder and install Azure Backup in the new folder location.

Azure Backup registration failed, showing "invalid vault credentials provided." The file is corrupted or does not have the latest credentials associated with the recovery service. ”

When you try to register a server, the following error message may be caused if the time setting is incorrect.

Please use the "Change date and Time settings ..." To reset the time and restart the server. The following is a detailed guide on how to resolve this issue.

1. Please refer to the setting clock article to update the date and time settings.

2. Make sure to match the local time zone and the closest time setting.

3. Restart the server to update the server's registration status. Be sure to restart the server, which is a frequently overlooked step .

4. Register the server with Azure Backup Service.

The Azure backup operation failed with the error message "Unable to communicate with the authentication service".

Attempting to run the server behind the agent may result in an error "unable to communicate with the authentication service."
Make sure that the correct proxy address is set. Also, if the proxy requires authentication, specify the user name and password. Here are step-by-steps instructions on how to set up an Azure Backup proxy server address.

    1. Open the Windows Azure Backup Agent UI.

2. Click on the "Changeproperties" link on the "Actions" tab.

3. Provide the proxy address and port. If the agent requires authentication, specify the user name and password.

4. Click "OK". The server should now be able to communicate with Azure Backup service using the specified proxy details.
