October 20, IDC said on Thursday that Microsoft had gained nearly June of its share in the rapidly growing x86 server virtual market in the second quarter of this year thanks to its Hyper-V virtualization software released in 1/4.

IDC said Microsoft's success would reduce VMware's global share growth to double its share.

VMware relied on its licensing to sell VMware ESX and VMware Server products accounted for 44% of the market in the second quarter of this year.

"The share of VMware Virtual licenses is likely to slow down in the long term," said Bret walman, an analyst at IDC, in an email ."

Microsoft said the results reflected the strength of its customers and partners using Microsoft virtualization software. VMware did not comment on this immediately.

Microsoft has taken the initiative to sell $28 to Hyper-V servers. The standard license fee for each ESX Server of VMware is USD 3000. This month, Microsoft also released an independent version of free low-end Hyper-V Server 2008. High-end Hyper-V versions are free for Windows Server 2008 users.

Wallman said that the sales volume of the Free Virtual Server 2005 is still the main part of the sales volume of Microsoft in the second quarter. Wallman said that due to the severe discount, Microsoft calculated revenue, with a market share of only 1.1%. VMware's revenue share continued to be 78%. According to IDC, annual sales of VMware increased by 27%.

He said he believes VMware has invested in several new plans, such as vCloud, to add new opportunities for itself, and Microsoft has not yet moved into these new fields. Parallels's vodozzo ranks third in project licensing and sales after VMware's revenue.

IDC said that despite the continued growth in sales in the virtual market, the share of the server virtual market in the fourth quarter of this year will slow down. The annual growth rate of sales in the second quarter of this year is 53%, and the annual growth rate in the first quarter is 72%. The annual growth rate of virtual sales based on x86 platforms or Intel servers is 60%.
