PS Expert to create polka dot portrait effect

Source: Internet
Author: User

The polka dot effect is a pattern made up of large and small solid dots, from a distance, like the color gradually and the background into the shadow. The design was first used in newspapers in 19th century to show shades of gray and then become popular. Now polka dots are often used in outdoor advertising, t-shirts, stickers, posters and other design, this design element will make full use of a small amount of ink, and because these dots are usually small, so it does not look particularly obvious.

Before, the circle point is more easy to be noticed by the reader, and the use of the polka point created by PS can bring a retro feeling, people seem to be back to the childhood News newspaper, cartoon cartoons of the era. Of course, if the entire image is applied to the polka dot effect, it will look tacky. Therefore, the PS tutorial does not use the Bohr point effect in the entire painting, so that not only the visual effect is great, and also full of a strong retro flavor.

Step:1

Open Photoshop to create a A4 canvas with a resolution of 300dpi. Then, import the downloaded image into Photoshop.

After you import the picture, select the Magic Wand tool (M) and select the white background in the picture, where you can apply the newly modified features of Photoshop CS5 to the exact selected area. Now do not use the rush to remove the background, white background will be deleted in the back. We first create a mask, shade the background, name the layer "GILR 1", and then copy it, and name it "Girl 2."

Step:2

Select "Girl 1" and select "Filter > Pixel > Color Halftone" in the main menu bar to set a maximum radius of 12 pixels and an angle of all 100 °. Here should be noted that the color halftone in the larger picture of the effect will be better, if it is small map, we recommend to try "image > Mode > Bitmap" in the application of color halftone filter, this effect may be better.

Step:3

To make the images look more design-like, we're going to do something different. First is the fade image color, select Image > Adjust > Hue and Saturation in the main menu, and set saturation to 0. Then select Image > Adjust > Levels, as shown in the following illustration, to set the black block to 99, and the white block to 205. Set as shown in the following figure.

Step:4

Create a new layer in the Layers panel, named "Brown", with a dark gray #5a5855 fill color. Place the new layer under "Girl 1" and select the white area of "Girl 1", and choose to remove the white area so that you see only black dots. Then select "Image > Adjust > Reverse" so that the black dots will become white dots. The effect is shown in the following illustration.

Step:5

Create a layer group (CTRL+G) for "Girl 1" to set the blending mode of the layer group to color dodge. Now that the layer group has only 1 layers, select Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur in the menu bar to set the blur radius to 2.5 pixels. Because the blending mode is set to Color Dodge, the blur effect does not look particularly obvious.

Step:6

Select the layer group for the Brown layer and the Girl 1, and select Layers > Merge layers in the main menu bar. After merging to a layer, select Image > Adjust > Levels to set the black block to 140 and the white block to 215.

Because of the previous blur effect and color dodge to dot a bit mixed feeling, here to adjust the color level can enhance the color contrast, so that the overall look more like independent molecular individuals.

Step:7

Select "Image > Adjust > Reverse", then select the Magic Wand tool (M), select "Choose > select Similar" in the main menu bar, select the white area and delete it. Duplicate the layer and apply the reverse adjustment again. In this way we have two layers: white dots and black dots, respectively, named "Black-and dots" and "dot".

Step:8

The following uses the mask slowly the color halftone effect presents. Select "Girl 2" layer to get Portrait area, select "Black dots" and "white dots" layer, and then select "Layer > Layer Mask > Hide Selection", now if the mask under the pattern, use the stroke.

Before you remove the mask with a brush, it is recommended that you select a selection that is a good dot. Right-click to select pixel for the layer thumbnail that sets the color halftone portrait.

Step:9

The following strokes will show the dots, first the white point display, and then let the black spots reveal some. And then use a brush to shade the dots of the portrait.

Step:10

Select the Textur 1 layer, and then select the approximate portrait area range, select Layer > Layer Mask > Show Selection in the main menu bar, and then display the selection just now. Add the Blur filter and set the radius to 50 pixels.

Step:11

Select the "Textur 1" layer and add the color halftone filter again, setting a maximum radius of 12 pixels and an angle of 100 °. Then lower the layer saturation and set the color order to get the midtones. The effect figure is shown in the following illustration.

Figure 11

Step:12

Download additional texture footage. Place the newly downloaded footage at the top of the layer. Sets the blending mode to overlay and opacity to 30%. Then select Image > Adjust > Hue and Saturation in the main menu bar to set the saturation to-70; the same operation adds color adjustment, set black Block 120, white block 212, gray block 1.18.

Step:13

The last thing to do is add text. In order to make the whole look more contemporary design sense, the upper font of the text with Helvetica, the lower part of the times. The lower part should be the color halftone effect at the same time. The final effect is shown in the following illustration.
