Tortoisegit ' s Settings

Hover your mouse over the Editbox,checkbox on the Settings-tortoisegit form, and some will pop up with helpful hints.

2.35.1. General Settings:

Set your preferred language, git-specific settings.

Language:

You can select an interface language. Only languages that have been installed with language packs are listed. You can download the language pack or help translate from the Tortoisegit download page.

Automatically check for newer versions every week:

If checked, Tortoisegit will visit its download site once a week to see if the installer has the latest version available.

Check Now:

If you want to know the answer immediately, just click on it. The new version will not be downloaded; you just get a tip window that tells you if you have a new version that you can use.

Create Library: (Not very understanding)

In Windows 7, you can create a library that aggregates working backups (working copies) scattered across multiple places in your system.

Git.exe Path:

Tortoisegit need to know which git.exe the operation will use. Enter the full path of the Git.exe.

Attention:

1.git.exe forbidden to be run in high-privilege mode (elevated modes) such as manager or any compatibility mode

2. There is a known issue with Windows Edition Msysgit/git: The Windows version of Git provides two git.exe files (one in the Bin folder and one in the cmd folder). Make sure that the Git.exe path points to the Bin folder under the Windows version of Git's installation folder.

3. If you are not using the Windows version of Git, see the Cygwin git and Msys2 git chapters, which require special settings.

There is no official support for Cygwin and Msys2 in the Tortoisegit. Tortoisegit developers only use the Windows version of Git. But welcome to submit Bugs report.

TIP:

To debug the problem, you can open the Tortoisegit advanced settings and set Debugoutputstring to True. Start capturing debug output. Then open tortoisegit settings, click Check Now and follow the debug information.

Extern DLL Path:

If your git installation requires an additional entry in the environment variable path (entry), you can enter it here and it will be automatically added to the environment variable path when Tortoisegit is started.

2.35.1.1. Context Menu Settings

This page allows you to specify which of the Tortoisegit context menu entries will appear in the main context menu and which will appear in the Tortoisegit submenu. By default, most items are not selected and appear in submenus.
