Recently, I want to learn about java Development in Linux and select the Ubuntu version I used before. I originally wanted to use Fedora, But I have mentioned on the Internet that it is a forum version, this is not formal, so I changed my mind. The following is a successful installation process on the hard disk:
Hard Disk installation is the preferred method for many users who do not burn their optical drives to install Ubuntu. The advantage of hard disk installation is that the system can be installed without light or software. Ubuntu 8.10 hard drive installation is as convenient and fast as other installation methods. In fact, the hard disk installation process is basically the same as that of Alternative CD!
This article only describes how hard disk installation is different from the CD installation to save space. Pay attention to the following points: Download the ISO of Alternative CD and place it in a partition that does not need to be modified during the installation process. We recommend that you store it on disk C. For convenience, put the CD image directly in the root directory and keep the original file name. Now, let's get started with installation!
First, download the latest WinGrub version from the Grub for DOS project website. The reason why Wingrub is selected is that Wingrub is easy to install and use. (Although its setting interface is too complex to be understood. Rz)
Install Wingrub. After the installation is complete, start WinGrub GUI. In this case, you will be asked to install Grub in that partition. It is recommended to install in partition C:
The following shows how to set the Grub option. In fact, it is to configure menu. list and select "default" in "Profile ". Do not worry about other options:
Select "Tools"-"Install Grub ":
The "Install Grub" dialog box is displayed. In the lower half, select boot. ini and keep others by default. Click Install:
Use NotePad to open C:/Grub/menu. list, add the following lines, and save the changes:
Title Install Ubuntu
Root (hd0, 0)
Kernel/vmlinuz
Initrd/initrd.gz
Then go to the Ubuntu image site to download the boot files required for hard disk installation: vmlinuzand initrd.gz. Generally, the latest vmlinuzand initrd.gz are located in the [Image site URL]/ubuntu/dists/[release name]/main/installer-[platform]/current/images/hd-media/directory. For Ubuntu 8.10, the release name is intrepid, and the platform is generally i386. Example: callback /. After downloading, put vmlinuzand initrd.gz somewhere. We recommend that you put them in the C root directory.
After processing, you can restart the system to start installation.
In this case, you will see the Windows operating system selection menu, select "Start Grub", and press Enter:
Then go to the Grub menu. Select "Install Grub" and press Enter. Then the system starts to guide:
First, select "Chinese (simplified)" as the language )":
At this time, the installer prompts that the language is incomplete and whether to continue. Select "yes ":
Select a country or region. Select "China" here ":
Then select the keyboard layout. You can select China, and then select China on the next screen. Here we select USA:
Select "USA" for the next screen ":
After the configuration is complete, the installer starts searching for the CD image and automatically starts system installation:
The subsequent steps are almost the same as installing with Alternative CD. For more information, see here. Follow the prompts to proceed with caution.
In the disk partition step, the disk configuration menu may not be displayed, because the installation disk is on the current installation target drive. To solve this problem, follow these steps:
1. Perform the partitioning step for the hard disk installation. When the dialog box is blank, press ALT + F2 to enter shell (the built-in shell of busybox) and return to the command prompt,
(Here we use an alternate CD, not a desktop CD. For the desktop CD version, press alt + f2 to run the dialog box. Press ctrl + alt + f2 to call out the terminal. Unlike in alternate, press ctrl + alt + F7 to return .)
2. In shell ls, you will find a directory named hd-media. Go in and check that the directory is the mount point of the hard disk partition that stores the iso image.
3. After checking, return to the root directory from hd-media and use umount-l hd-media to uninstall it. The "-l" parameter must be added; otherwise, it cannot be uninstalled.
4. After uninstallation, press ALT + F1 to return to the installation interface. At this time, stop at the partitioning step and go to the "Installation Program Main Menu" through the "return" button under the dialog box. Then, select "hard disk partition" again ", in this case, the partitioning step should be normal and you can see the hard disk partition scanned by it.
Fifth, there is nothing to say about partition and continue installation.
Note: I really don't understand why there is no prompt to select the required option when selecting the required software package during Ubuntu 8.10 Alternate installation? I installed it twice and found such a prompt in other configuration items during the third time. The item where the red cursor was originally located was not selected, so I had to press the Space key. Because I only selected the "Desktop" with a red cursor during the previous two installations, I was puzzled to find that there was no Desktop system and I had to enter the command line. You must pay attention to the installation, especially for new users.
Optional
Note one thing. I recommend that you install Grub boot program into MBR during system installation. If you do, you may want to uninstall Wingrub in Windows.
Start Windows and enable WinGrub GUI. Select "Tools"-"Install Grub ":
The "Install Grub" dialog box is displayed. In the lower half, select boot. ini and keep others by default. Click Remove:
Then, uninstall the Wingrub program. Remove the grldrand grubfolders in the C drive, initrd.gz, and mlinuz. The system has been cleaned up.
In this way, you will no longer have three boot programs (Windows OS Loader, Ubuntu Grub and WinGrub ). Ubuntu Grub will be the only system boot program.
Okay. Here is the hard disk installation introduction. It's not very complicated. The article on system configuration will be released soon. Coming soon.
