Example Description:

1. The trim command is used to trim the graphic entity. This command is used in many ways, not only to trim two-dimensional objects that intersect or intersect, but also to trim three-dimensional objects. The method is called:

Toolbar: "Modify (modified)"

Menu: "Modify (modified)" → "Trim (trim)"

Command line: Trim (or alias tr)

When this command is invoked, the system first displays the current setting of the trim command and prompts the user to select a trim boundary:

Current Settings:projection=ucs, Edge=none

Select Cutting Edges ...

Select objects:

After the user determines the trimming boundary, the system further prompts as follows:

Select object to trim or shift-select to extend or [Project/edge/undo]:

At this point, the user can choose the following actions:

(1) Select the clipped object directly with the mouse;

(2) Press the SHIFT key while selecting the object, which can be used as the "Extend (extend)" command. The trimming boundary defined by the user is the extension boundary;

(3) Project (projection) Option: Specifies the projection mode that is used when trimming an object.

(4) Edge (EDGE) Option: Specifies whether the extrusion mode is used when trimming the object, and the system prompts as follows:

Enter an implied edge extension mode [extend/no Extend] <no extend>:

The "Extend" option allows the clipping boundary to extend to the trimmed object and trim if the trimmed boundary does not intersect with the clipped object. In the same case, pruning is not possible with "No Extend" mode. The comparison of the two modes is shown in Figure 5-20.

(5) "Undo (Discard)" option: Discard the most recent modification made by the "trim" command.

Description You must start the command when you use the trim command, and then select the object you want to edit, and the selected object automatically cancels the selection state when you start the command.

2. The "Extend" command is used to extend graphic entities. This command is almost identical to the "trim" command. The method is called:

Toolbar: "Modify (modified)" →

Menu: "Modify (modified)" → "Extend (Extended)"

Command line: Extend (or alias ex)

When this command is invoked, the system first displays the current setting of the "extend" command and prompts the user to select an extension boundary:

Current Settings:projection=ucs, Edge=none

Select Boundary edges ...

Select objects:

After the user determines the extension boundary, the system further prompts as follows:

Select object to extend or shift-select to trim or [Project/edge/undo]:

At this point, the user can choose the following actions:

(1) Directly select the object to be extended with the mouse.

(2) Press the SHIFT key while selecting the object, which can be used as the trim (trim) command. The extension boundary that the user determines is the trim boundary.

Other options are the same as the trim command.

Note As with the trim command, you must start the command when you use the Extend command, select the object you want to edit, and automatically deselect the selected object when you start the command.

As you can see from the above introduction, the "trim" command and the "extend" command can be substituted for each other, which is the new features of the AutoCAD 2000i and 2002 editions.
