Command prototype:

-C,--create creates a new compressed file

View

-T,-list: list archived content

Extract

-X,-extract,-get to extract files from the archive

Auxiliary options

-F filename: file name followed by file

-Z use bzip2 for compression and decompression. The suffix is commonly used * .tar.bz2

-J. Commonly Used * .tar.gz

-V view the files being processed during decompression

Example:

// Compress everything in the current directory into 123.tar and replace it with-cvf. You can view the files being processed in tar-cf 123.tar * // check which files in tar-tf 123.tar// decompress 123.tar to the current directory. replace the folder with-xvf to view the files being processed tar-xf 123.tar
