For the next billion users, Google must do both well.

The May 29 message is well known. Not every country in the world has a very well-developed network, especially in non-world-first countries. Google does not have to count on the Network Conditions of the United States, therefore, at this Google I/O developer conference, Google claims that it will not only allow Android to enter more emerging markets, but also greatly optimize features in these markets in the Android M system, for example, add an "offline" function with ulterior motives.

Never let go of emerging markets

"Allowing users to access the world's information wherever they are, from the very beginning, is at the core of Google's work ." Jen Fitzpatrick, vice president of Google engineering, said at the Google I/O developer conference.

"More and more people have new smartphones, but for some users, smartphones are also their computing devices ." Jen Fitzpatrick explained that before 2016, the demand for smartphones in six countries including China, Mexico, and Brazil was as high as 1.2 billion, but many of these countries still lacked Internet access. "Users in these areas are eager for mobile computing, both common users and creators. We think carefully about how to better improve our products and platforms to meet the special needs of these users ."

Jen Fitzpatrick claims that Google will expand its Android One project first. According to the introduction, Google can run the latest Android M operating system for the reference design of cheap machine hardware configuration, through cooperation with about 10 hardware manufacturers, attack India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Nepal.

She also mentioned that Google's cheap Chromebook is also a powerful tool to focus on emerging markets, and "hundreds of millions of cheap devices" will be shipped to emerging markets.

Optimizing Network experience offline is the core function

At the meeting, Google also expressed that Android M will return to the initial stage for further major patching and optimization. The overall idea is to make Google's applications faster and more practical, and to use better Android platforms wherever they are in the world, including in developing regions, jen Fitzpatrick stressed that "speed and connectivity" is a core concern for users in these regions.

Search and Chrome: Google found that in Indonesia's 2G network environment, it took 25 seconds for a user's mobile phone to load a search result page. Therefore, Google specially developed a 10-fold simplified search page, which increases the loading speed by about 30%. Google said that in the future, the search results will be loaded four times faster, and the content will be optimized by 80%.

At the same time, Google will deploy a network quality assessment for the built-in Chrome browser in emerging regions, and use special algorithms to deduce the data traffic needed for Web browsing, in addition, it will automatically reduce image loading and image quality in areas with slow network speed, and save bandwidth to increase the page browsing speed and reduce data traffic.

Fitzpatrick said, "This means that users in these regions will be able to open any page at a faster speed ." In addition, she said that the new Android M Platform will allow more apps to support offline downloads.

YouTube supports offline: In India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, Google will provide Offline Video services for YouTube, allowing users to offline video on YouTube to smartphones, you can watch offline videos at any time even if you do not have a network, but the time is limited to 48 hours.

Google map's offline improvement: the offline services provided by HERE and other map services are increasingly popular, and Google has been lagging behind in this regard. Therefore, Google chooses to maximize the offline map service, not only supports offline map search, but also supports offline query of more traffic information and the use of offline voice navigation.
