Forbes: Microsoft's browser market is no longer dominated by the past

According to Forbes, August 26 Beijing time, Microsoft plans to launch the latest version of Internet browser IE8 this week. When Microsoft's open-source competitor Mozilla launched the latest Firefox browser in June, the Network went crazy, people downloaded more than 8 million copies within 24 hours after the latest version of Firefox was released.

Microsoft's forthcoming IE8 release may not receive similar treatment. When it is building momentum for the release of IE8, developers behind Firefox are also testing another new technology to enhance Firefox's competitiveness. The new technology named "TraceMonkey" is said to improve Firefox's ability to send complex applications.

This increases the threat that the latest network application software poses to Microsoft's most profitable products, such as Microsoft Office. In the fiscal year ended June 30, Microsoft's business revenue reached $12.4 billion, of which 90% came from the sales of Office products.

However, Google is not weak. It uses the profits gained from the online advertising business to develop network application software that competes with Microsoft Desktop products. Google claims that the number of users of its network application software has reached millions.

The next version of Firefox may be available by the end of this year. Mozilla promises that Firefox will speed up these applications. It has integrated a new technology in the developer version Firefox last week. Currently, rich network applications like Google Gmail primarily rely on Javascript technology to convert web pages into applications.

TraceMonkey can convert the most commonly used Javascript code built into the web page into binary code, so that the computer can directly process a large amount of binary code without waiting for code conversion.

This also marks another retreat of Microsoft in the network competition. Microsoft bound its Web browser software to a Windows operating system more than a decade ago, thus defeating Netscape. Netscape's IPO in 1995 ignited the explosive growth of the network. Today, the network continues to grow, all services launched by startups like Facebook and Yelp are based on browser software.

Of course, Netscape has been wiped out by Microsoft. Although the competition threats to Microsoft have been diminished due to the burst of the network bubble, it is clear that Microsoft is not paranoid.
