Four ways to Safely remove Windows XP SP2

The release of window| security Windows XP ServicePack2 has attracted countless attention and many people are eager to download and install, however, many of the new features of SP2 and many of the improvements may not be compatible with your machine's hardware or applications. I believe this also brings trouble to many people. If you reload the system for this, it's worth the candle. Many people must be very concerned about how to uninstall SP2 while keeping the system running properly.

Use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel

1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. Click to select the Show Updates check box.

3. Click Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click Delete.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the Windows XP SP2.

Use the Hidden $NtServicePackUninstall $ folder

1. Click Start, click Run, type C:windows$ntservicepackuninstall$spuninstspuninst.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. After the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Removal Wizard starts, click Next.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the Windows XP SP2.

Using System Recovery Procedures

1. Click Start, click Run, type%systemroot%system32restorerstrui.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. Click Restore my Computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.

3. Click to select the date when you installed Windows XP SP2, and then click installed Window XP Service Pack 2 in the Restore Point box.

4. Click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to remove the Windows XP SP2.
Using the Recovery Console
If you have tried all of these methods and still cannot successfully remove Windows XP SP2, follow these steps: 1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. When the following message appears on the screen, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD: Press any key to boot from CD
Note: Your computer must be configured to boot from a CD drive or a DVD drive. For more information about how to configure your computer to start from a CD drive or DVD drive, see the documentation that came with your computer, or contact your computer manufacturer.

2. When the following message appears on your screen, press R to start the Recovery Console: Welcome to the installer

3. Select your Windows XP installation. This installation is typically located in the C:windows directory.

4. Type the administrator password according to the prompts. If you do not have an administrator password, press the Enter key.

5. At the command prompt, type the CD $NTServicePackUninstall $spuninst, and then press Enter.

6. Warning: After you complete this step, you will not be able to terminate the deletion process.

At the command prompt, type batch spuninst.txt, and then press Enter.

7. After the deletion process is complete, type exit, and then press Enter.

8. Restart the computer.

Important: Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) does not run after the computer restarts, and you must follow these steps:

A. Press Ctrl+alt+delete to start the task Manager.

B. Click the Application tab, and then click New Task.

C. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

D. Locate and click the following registry subkey:

Hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetservicesrpcss

E. Right-click ObjectName, click Modify, and then type LocalSystem in the Value data box.

F. Restart your computer

9. Use one of the above methods to remove Windows XP SP2 from your computer.
