FreeBSD 7.0-release was officially released, which is the first official release version of the 7-stable branch. It is also the first odd version with plan rather than function as the priority. Highlights of this version include: -The scalability problems exposed in the database and many other performance tests in the SMP environment are greatly improved. FreeBSD 7.0 in some cases, the performance of normal load is 350% higher than that of FreeBSD 6.x, and the performance is up to 1500% higher under high load conditions. Compared with the best performance of Linux kernel (2.6.22 and 2.6.24) So far, the performance is 15% higher. The results of these performance improvements come from the performance evaluation cases used to analyze and improve the system performance, which may vary with your specific workload. The performance improvement mainly comes from the following improvements: * By default, the libthr thread library of the 1:1 thread model is used. * Improvements in inter-process communication (IPC), network, and scheduler locks. * Optimizes the SMP architecture introduced by the 5.x and 6.x branches. Some performance tests show that this version of FreeBSD linearly increases the performance of up to 8 CPUs with the number of CPUs. Many workloads have significantly improved performance in multi-core systems. -The ule scheduler has been greatly improved, including improvements in performance and interactive application response (the 4bsd scheduler is still the default scheduler in 7.0, but we may replace ule with the default scheduler in 7.1) -Added experimental support for Sun's ZFS file system. -Added gjournal and gvirstor that can be used to add data logs to the file system. -Added read-only support for XFS file systems. -The unionfs file system is rewritten. -Added the iSCSI initiator (client ). -Added Tso and LRO support for some Nic drivers. -Added support for the experimental sctp (Stream Control Transmission Protocol) (FreeBSD became a reference implementation for this Protocol ). -The Wireless Network (802.11) support has been greatly improved. -Introduced network link aggregation/trunking (lagg (4) from OpenBSD )). -Added the ability to instantly compile local code for BPF, improving the performance of capturing packages. -The support for Embedded System Development Boards Based on ARM architecture has been greatly improved. -Introduces a new high-scalability user-mode memory distributor jemalloc. -FreeBSD-Update (8) officially provides support for Binary upgrades between different release versions based on the security and reliability updates of the same version. -X. org 7.3, Kde 3.5.8, gnome 2.20.2. -GCC 4.2.1. -Bind 9.4.2.
