Step 1: Create your custom keyboard

I designed a set of special labels for Photshop. I first made a sketch of the key layout on the paper, which involves all the features I may use and their locations. Specific images can be found in Google/Baidu images. If you want to create other types of keyboards, you only need to design them by yourself.

Print the label to make sure that the size is appropriate and then crop it by column (or row. It is recommended to use Invisible tape to cover each column (or row), because it can be used for a long time and will not become yellow or fall off.

Finally, you can crop each key tag to ensure the same size.

Apply a layer of PVA glue evenly to the tag, find the proper location, and then quickly press the tag, so that all the buttons are completed in turn. Then, clean the entire keyboard to make sure the keyboard looks good.

Step 2: Set and operate HID Macros

HID Macros is a perfect software for us. It can modify the keyboard function to ensure that the original function of the keyboard is not activated when you use the keyboard, which is very suitable for our goal.

About HID Macros and source code

It does not have the installation and running process. You only need to extract it to a suitable folder.

First, insert the keyboard to the computer, and then open the HID Macros. For example, if I want to change the "7" Key to the character "B", in Photoshop, "B" is a "brush ".

Follow these steps:

Click "NEW" and name your NEW button, for example, "brush ". Click "SCAN", select "7", click "Send keyboard sequence", enter the character "B", and click "Save Configuration. When you press "7", the character "B" is displayed ". Other buttons can be operated in sequence.

In addition, in HID macros, you can add multiple devices and store different key commands in each device. Therefore, you must be cautious when adding or deleting a device to avoid confusion between keyboard keys and commands.

The correct method is to click the "devices" button to view all associated devices. Click "Move macros" to select the devices you want to Move. If you are not sure which device it is, click "Macros" and press any key on the keyboard. The device test area will tell you.
