General-purpose storage (SSD) of Amazon RDS)

In March of this year, we introduced SSD-based Elastic Block-level storage for Amazon EC2 instances. After a few months of release, this new method of choice, known as general-purpose storage (SSD), has accounted for 90% of the newly created EBS volumes, we learned from customers' feedback that they like this consistent performance very much (pre-configured storage is 3 iops per GB) and increased to 3000 iops as needed, you do not need to consider the capacity limit of the preset storage.

Now, we provide Amazon RDS with the same constant performance and capability improvement capabilities. As an RDS user, you will have three different types of storage available:

1) General (SSD ):Suitable for various types of database workloads with medium I/O requirements. The basic performance is 3 iops per GB, and can exceed 3000 iops, providing you with more powerful performance, which will apply to many applications;

2) pre-configured iops (SSD ):It is suitable for databases with high requirements, including transaction processing type (OLTP ). This type of storage provides the most consistent performance, and 1000-3000 iops can be provided according to application requirements;

3) magnetic storage (RDS standard storage mode ):This storage type is very suitable for small database workloads with low read volumes;

When you use RDS, you can use this type of general-purpose storage (SSD), and combine with other powerful features of RDS, such as multi-AZ, read replicas) and aws vpc. In the US East (Virginia) region, the price is $0.115/GB/month. For more price information, see the RDS Price page.

Start to use

Currently, this new storage method can be used in all regions of AWS (except China), and you are using the MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or sqlserver Database Engine features.
