To check if the NIC is working properly, you just click the Start/Settings/Control Panel command, in the Pop-up Control Panel window, double-click the System icon, in the pop-up System Properties window, open the Hardware tab page, and then click the Device Manager button in the In the subsequent Hardware Device list interface, double-click the network card icon, in the next network card properties settings interface, you can see the NIC's working status is good or bad, as shown in Figure 1.

  check whether to open the relevant services

Many individual users in order to ensure that their servers from hackers or illegal attackers to destroy, often you will not be familiar with the system services or temporary use of some services to shut down, but some system services once the shutdown, it will cause "network and dial-up connection" in the local connection icon can not display correctly. To do this, when you encounter a failure to find the local connection icon, you can follow the following methods to check whether each of the related services are enabled:

First check that the network connection service is started, and when you check the service, you can click Start/program/admin tools/services, and in the next open list of system services, locate the "Network Connections" option and double-click the option with your mouse. In the pop-up Figure 2 service attribute settings interface, you will be able to see the startup state of the service; If you find that the service has not been started, you can click the Drop-down button at the Startup type setting, select Automatic from the pop-up drop-down list, click the Apply button, and then click the "Start" button so that " Network Connections "service can be re-enabled;

The remote procedure Call service is then checked for startup, and the "Network Connections" service cannot be started properly because the "Network Connections" service is dependent on the remote procedure Invocation service and if the remote procedure Call service is not enabled. When checking whether the remote procedure Call service is started, you can find the "remote Procedure called service" option in the Open System Services list interface and double-click the option, and you can see the startup status of the service Properties setting interface that pops up. If you find that the service has not been started, you just follow the previous steps, you can restart it;

Then check to see if the Plug and Play service starts. Because the system must rely on the Plug and Play service to automatically recognize the NIC when the network adapter is installed, the system may not recognize the NIC if it is not started, causing the local connection icon in the Network and Dial-up Connections window to not appear. When checking to see if the Plug and Play service starts, you can find the "Plug with" option in the Open System Services list interface and double-click the option, and in the pop-up service Properties setting interface, you can look at its startup status. If you find that the service has not been started, you can just follow the previous steps and restart it.

The missing local connection icon might be able to "appear".

  Check to see if my Network Places are hidden

Many local area network users in order to prevent other illegal users, random access to shared resources on the local area network often hides the network Neighborhood functionality to prevent illegal users from finding shared destinations through their Network Neighborhood windows; The local connection icon in the Network and Dial-up Connections window may be "implicated," though. So checking your network Neighborhood for hidden is an important way to find the missing "local Connection" icon:

When you check whether your network Neighborhood is hidden, you only have to look in the system desktop to see if there is a network Neighborhood icon, and if you can't find the icon, it's true that the icon has disappeared. At this point you can display it again in the system desktop by using the following method:

Click the start/Run command, and in the system Run dialog that pops up, enter the System Policy edit command "Poledit", and then click the "OK" button to open the Policy editing window of the system.

In the edit window, click the File menu item in the menu bar and execute the Open Registry command from the pop-up Drop-down menu. In the next window shown in Figure 5, double-click the local user icon, and then, in the property settings interface that appears, expand the shell interface, then the limit branch, and in the corresponding Limit branch, check that the hidden Network Places item is selected, and if it is already selected, you must cancel it, and then click OK.

Finally, click the file/Save command in the menu bar of the System Policy editing window, and then save the previous parameter settings to the system's registry. After you restart the computer system, you will be able to see the Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop, and then the local connection icon will automatically reappear when you open the Networking and dial-up connection window.

  Check to see if a connection is deleted

If you have enabled the automatic deletion of existing connections in the Group Policy editing window, the system's local connection icon may also disappear, so you can follow the steps below to check if the current system has enabled the option to remove existing connections:

Click the start/Run command, and in the pop-up System Run dialog box, enter the Group Policy editing command "Gpedit.msc", and then click OK to open the system's Group Policy editing window;

Expand the User Configuration folder in turn, the Windows Settings folder, the Internet Explorer Maintenance folder, the Connections folder, and, in the child window to the right of the connection folder, double-click the connection Settings option;

In the Setup window that appears as shown in Figure 6, check to see if the "Remove existing dial-up connection settings" option is already selected, if selected, uncheck it, and then click the "OK" button and restart the computer system so that the local Area Connection icon may appear again.
