Getting started with Linux: upgrading the kernel of CentOS 6.4
Obtain the package of the kernel version to be upgraded
# Wget-c https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/internal kernel version
If the kernel compression format is tar. xz, You need to decompress the package in two steps.
# Xz-d ***. tar. xz
# Tar-xvf ***. tar
Required library for Installation
# Yum install gcc
# Yum install gcc-c ++
# Yum install make
# Yum install ncurses-devel
# Yum install perl
# Yum install zlib-devel
# Yum install openssl-devel
# Yum install perl-devel
# Yum install perl-CAPN
# Yum install cpio
# Yum install expat-devel
# Yum install gettext-devel
# Yum install tcl
# Yum install wget (command for getting source code package online)
Install the zlib library:
1. download the latest zlib at http://www.zlib.net /.
# Tar xvzf zlib-1.2.8.tar.gz
# Cd zlib-1.2.8
#./Configure
# Make
# Make install
Installation command git
Wget http://git-core.googlecode.com/files/git-1.8.3.2.tar.gz (can also be changed to another version)
# Tar xzvf git-1.8.3.2.tar.gz
# Cd git-1.8.3.2
# Autoconf
#./Configure
# Make
# Make install
Update Kernel
# Cd linux-3.8.8
# Make mrproper; then remove the original configuration
# Make menuconfig; kernel settings
Save Configuration
# Make bzImage; Compile the kernel image (note that I is case sensitive)
# Make modules; Compilation Module
# Make modules_install; installation Module
# Make install; install the image
# Vi/etc/grub. conf; change the default startup Item to 0.
# Reboot; restart the machine
CentOS 6.4 system kernel upgrade
Compile and upgrade the kernel in CentOS 6.4
