Charts display numbers in graphical form, very intuitive, and can be used to analyze or compare data more easily.

First, create a chart

(i) Create a chart directly

1. Perform "insert" → "picture" → "chart", the datasheet window opens, and a sample chart is inserted into the document.

2. Add and modify data in the Datasheet window, and the chart will change.

3. When you click elsewhere in the document, the datasheet window is hidden (or when you close the Datasheet window and click elsewhere in the document), and the chart is embedded in the document as a picture.

(ii) Use of tables to create charts

1. Create a table in Word, place the text label in the first row and the leftmost column, and fill in the numbers in the other cells.

2. Select the table area where you want to create the chart.

3. Perform "insert" → "picture" → "chart", open the Datasheet window, and insert a chart that reflects the range of data in the document.

4. Click in another location in the document, and the chart is embedded in the document as a picture.

Tip: There is another way to create a chart: Perform insert → object, select Microsoft Graph chart in the object type box of the new tab, and then click OK.

Second, edit the chart

To make changes to the elements of a chart, you must do so in the chart view. If the chart is a picture, you can double-click it, and a slash border appears around it, and you can edit the chart at this point.

1. Edit Data

If the datasheet window doesn't appear, you can open it again by executing the view → data sheet (or by right-clicking and selecting data Sheet). Changes to the data in the Datasheet window are immediately reflected in the chart.

2. Set Object Format

Select a different object on the chart, such as a chart area, legend, background wall, axis, and so on, right-click, select Format XXX (or use the appropriate command for the Format menu), and in the dialog box that opens, you can format the selected object.

3. Change chart type

Right-click in a space in the chart area, select chart type, open the Chart Type dialog box, select a new type in the chart type box on the standard Type tab, and then click OK.

4. Set Chart Options

Right-click in the space in the chart area, select chart Options, and in the dialog box, you can set the title, axis, gridlines, legend, data labels, and so on.

5. Adjust Chart size

Drag the border of the chart area with your mouse to change the overall size of the chart. Also, click to select the Legend area, title area, plot area, and so on, and change their size.

In addition, you can use the shortcut menu to set the three-dimensional view format for a chart.
