A table of figures is a table of contents that is listed for graphics, formulas, tables, and so on in a document (collectively, the chart object). This section first introduces the way to make a table of figures using captions. First, make sure that the caption is inserted under the Chart object in the document (see the previous tutorial), and then follow the steps below to prepare the table of figures:
1. Place the insertion point where you want to place the table of figures.
2. Perform "insert" → "reference" → "index and table of contents" → "Table of figures" tab.
3. In the caption label box, select the type of caption label that you want to include in the table of figures. This example selects a custom "diagram".
4. Set up other options on the table of Figures tab (refer to the table of contents).
5. Click OK to insert the table of figures.
Attention:
1. If you want to make catalogs for other types of chart objects, you can repeat the steps above.
2. If you want to make a single catalog of all the chart objects that are marked with captions in the document, on the table of Figures tab, click the Options button, select Caption in the style Drop-down list, and the check box is automatically selected, and click OK. On the Table of Contents tab, the caption label box appears as none, and then click OK to insert a table of contents for all the chart objects marked with the caption.
3. If the newly created table of figures contains the contents of an existing table of figures, a prompt to replace the selected catalog appears when you insert the table of figures, click Yes to replace, no will not replace and place the new directory at the insertion point.
4. If you add, delete, move, or edit the caption, you need to update the table of figures. Update the table of figures, click to the left of the table of figures, and then press the F9 key.
