Sometimes, we might be in a situation where we print a Word document without the right printer and get to the other machine and then we don't have word (or a low version of Word installed). To work around this problem, you can use the Print to file feature of Word. It can output a Word document as a binary PRN file, and then it can be printed using a DOS command on another machine.
The first step is to open the Print dialog box, select a printer (that is, a printer attached to another computer you want to use, and you may need to install the driver before selecting it).
In the second step, select the page range, select all, current page, or the specified page, or select odd pages or even pages in the Print Drop-down list below.
In the third step, select the Print to File check box.
Step Fourth, click OK, and in the Print to File dialog box, save the file with the extension ". prn".
To print this file to a printer, you must use MS-DOS instructions. In the WIN2000/WINXP Command Prompt window (Win98 is the MS-DOS window), you can use either of the following two commands: "copy/b file name. PRN prn" and "copy/b filename. prn LPT1", where "/b" The parameter represents a print binary file, PRN and LPT1 refer to "printer", and the file name requires a complete path.
