In Vista, I only recognized 3.5 GB. I upgraded the master BIOS to support a maximum of 8 GB... The current system does not support 4 GB memory.
Generally, only 64-bit XP can be changed. So there is no good way for you.

1. Memory addressing capability of the operating system:
The 32-bit addressing capability is 4 GB.
64-bit addressing capability: 16777216 TB (1 TB = 1024 GB)
That is to say, the 32-bit operating system can only recognize 4 GB, so why does it show only 3 or less
In a traditional 32-bit architecture, 3-4g addressing space is reserved for the following devices:
-System BIOS (including motherboard, expansion card, etc ..)
-Memory corresponds to I/O
-AGP/PCI-Ex/PCI settings
-Memory of other PCI devices
Simply put: This 1g memory is occupied by them, and according to the external PCI-E/PCI device number: such as dual graphics card, external sound card, it is likely that only 2 GB is close to 3 GB.

2. Check whether VISTA can recognize 4G memory or above
Because the 32-bit VISTA version does not support PAE Technology (Physical Address Extension: Physical Address Extension ),
Therefore, do not recognize 4G for 32-bit VISTA during installation. Vista should be able to support PAE in the kernel. Maybe Windows Vista (32-bit) will introduce PAE support in the Service Pack mode in the future.

Therefore, we recommend that our sales staff allocate 3G memory or less than 3G memory to common customers.
. If your configuration exceeds 3 GB, either of the following conditions must be met ::
1 hardware support (chipset): Intel 7520/7525 (server/workstation), Intel 975X, 955X, Nvidia NF4 SLI Intel Edition, Nvidia NF4 SLI X16
2. The software requires a 64-bit operating system or SEVER2003.

You may wonder why it is a number like 3.5GB. Why is it not 4 GB? Well, in fact, there is a long technical explanation for this problem. In short, the 32-bit operating system can only support a maximum of 4 GB memory. In fact, this data is changed, and I chose a 3.5 GB. In addition to random memory, you also have other storage devices, such as graphics cards. The total memory size is up to 4 GB in 32-bit operating systems. But in fact, for 32-bit Windows Vista users, this does not stay at 4,096 MB. Listen to me.

If you buy 4 GB memory, it may be very good. The reason why I say it is "possible" is that many 32-bit operating systems will be less efficient after 4 GB. Therefore, if you have less than 3 GB of memory, you do not need to buy more memory. If you want to use more memory (between 8 GB and GB), you can always switch to 64-bit Windows Vista. Okay. Let's get started!

Steps:

1. Go to cmd: Click the Start Menu, Enter "cmd" in the search box, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter (Enter the Administrator mode of cmd)

2. Enter the following command:

BCDEdit/set PAE forceenable

BCDEdit is about the startup configuration editor of the command line. With the above command, you can enable the physical address extension (PAE) to make the supported memory larger than 4 GB.
