Recently, the supplier recommended a product that backs up the database 64 times a day. when the database is damaged, any backup can be restored. the strongest is that it is backed up together with the connected OS. When the master database OS is damaged and cannot be started, you can use iSCSI to mount any backup to a drive letter, use VMware to directly start the backup OS together with the database. You do not need to recover the OS in the old mode before restoring the database. in this way, the database can be restored in about 10 minutes.
I backed up the database and made several snapshots according to the vendor's instructions. in a Windows system, the snapshot is mounted to a drive letter. create a VM on Vmware and choose to start from the local hard disk. Then, select the backup I mounted through iSCSI. as a result, VMWare reported an error at startup because my VM is installed on a 32-bit system, and my DB's original system is 64-bit and cannot be started.
On a 64-bit Windows server, the VM cannot be started after it is installed. because my machine is em64t, it is a false 64-bit. however, my DB was originally em64t, which is really strange.
The last trick is to install oracle on my em64t windows and create a DB. pfile uses the pfile of the original DB, the drive letter of the backup disk mounted by iSCSI is the same as that of the original dB. The database is started directly. that is to say, I mounted the backup to my local hard disk through iSCSI. The drive letter where the data file is located is the same as the data file in my old dB. The disk on the backup OS does not have a drive letter, after creating a database, you can start the database directly without restoration. in fact, if I used this method from the very beginning, if the OS was pre-installed, it would take less than 10 minutes to restore the database.
The machine I got is a gigabit electrical port machine with two TB of space. It can back up three databases at the same time. it is said that there are high-end, pure fiber-optic channels, optical fiber disks, and more than 10 machines can be backed up at the same time. Moreover, using fiber-optic channels, iSCSI will be very fast, and attaching disks and local disks will be similar in speed, the recovery speed of the database using backup is the same as that of the original database.
With this backup method, the database administrator is much easier. because the database can easily restore to any point before the exception (a little exaggerated, because there are only 64 backups every day, but if your hard disk is large enough, you can do more backup ).
