Google: small websites do not need XML sitemaps

After a new website is launched, you can configure an XML map (sitemaps) to be easily indexed by search engines. However, this is not necessary for small websites, john Mueller of Google answered your questions today:

Depending on the size of the Website, you do not have to have a sitemap file, and we will index all the content on our own.

Of course, if you have a sitemap file, you can check whether the independent URL address has been correctly indexed at any time.

For small websites, Google is fully capable of indexing the entire website without sitemap. But for webmasters, installing an XML plug-in is not a hassle. How does Google determine whether it is a small website? 20 pages? Page 10000?

For the new webmaster, creating an HTML map is more important than an XML map. html map is for people, and XML is for search engines.
