Google pushes new software to connect PCs to PS3 and Xbox 360

According to foreign media reports, Google has released a software that enables Windows PC to play music and video content on a digital TV and display pictures.

Google media server enables the PC to be connected to any device that supports the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) protocol. UPnP enables various devices on the home network to share data.

Media Server can only run on Windows PC. You need to install Google Desktop software on PC. Media Server uses desktop search to find media files on PCs and the Internet. In a blog published on Thursday, Google Media Server is a Windows application that can build a bridge between Google and users' TV sets.

The UPnP devices that can be connected to Media Server include Sony's PS3, Microsoft's Xbox 360, and HP's mediasmart HDTV.

The release of this software makes Google a step closer to the Home Entertainment Market. Both Microsoft and Apple have released software that connects PCs to televisions. Analysts predict that the home network market will be a lucrative market in the future.
