Article Title: GRUB instructions (4 ). Linux is a technology channel of the IT lab in China. Includes basic categories such as desktop applications, Linux system management, kernel research, embedded systems, and open source.
Option tells the first bootstrap loader where the second bootstrap loader is located, for example (hd0, 0)/grub/stage2. The p option tells the configuration file of the install command menu to be specified in the part, for example (hd0, 0)/grub. conf.
Kernel-when the operating system is guided using direct loading, the kernel command specifies that the kernel is loaded from the GRUB root file system. The options option is followed by the kernel command and passed to the kernel during kernel loading.
In Red Hat Linux, the example of a kernel command looks like the following format:
Kernel/vmlinuz root =/dev/hda5
The above line indicates that the vmlinuz file is loaded from the GRUB root file system, for example (hd0, 0 ). At the same time, an option is also passed to the kernel. It indicates that when the Linux kernel is loaded, the root file system of the kernel should be located in hda5, the fifth partition of the first IDE hard disk. If necessary, multiple options can be placed after this option.
Root-set the root partition of GRUB to a specific device and partition, for example (hd0, 0 ). And mount the partition so that the file can be read.
Rootnoverify-do the same thing with the root command, but do not mount the partition.
In addition to the preceding descriptions, more commands are available. Enter info grub to obtain a complete list of all commands.
5. GRUB menu configuration file
In the GRUB menu interface, create a list of boot operating systems. The configuration file allows you to select and execute a set of commands that have been set in advance. These commands include both the preceding commands and some commands only used for configuration files.
Dedicated commands for configuration files
The following commands are only used in the GRUB menu configuration file:
Color-set the color used in the menu. One is the foreground color and the other is the background color. You can simply use color names, such as red/black. For example:
Color red/black green/blue
Default-The title name of the default project. If the menu interface times out, it will be loaded.
Fallback-when this command is used, if the first attempt fails, the project title name will be tried.
Hiddenmenu-when this command is used, it does not display the GRUB menu interface and loads the default item after the timeout time expires. You can press the [Esc] key to view the standard GRUB menu.
Password-this command is used to prevent users who do not know the password from editing menu items.
As an additional option, you can specify a backup menu configuration file later. Therefore, if the password is known, GRUB restarts the boot loader in step 2 and uses this backup configuration file to create a menu. If this backup file is not specified in the command, the user with the password can edit the current configuration file.
Timeout-this command sets the interval (in seconds) before GRUB loads the project specified by the default command.
Splashimage-it specifies the position of the screen image used during GRUB boot.
Title-set the title of a group of specific commands used to load an operating system.
Character # is used to place comments in the menu configuration file.
