GTP is a set of IP-based communication protocols that support universal Packet Radio Service (GPRS) in GSM and UMTS networks. The GPRS Tunnel protocol GTP can be decomposed into three separate protocols, Gtp-c, Gtp-u and GTP. Gtp-c is used to transmit signaling between GGSN (Gateway GPRS support node) and SGSN (Service GPRS support node) within the GPRS core network, which allows the SGSN to activate a session on behalf of the user (Pdp[Packet Data Protocol] context activation), disable the active session, adjust the quality of service parameters, or update a user's session that has just been switched from another SGSN. Gtp-u is used to transfer user data between the wireless access network and the core network within the GPRS core network, and the user data packet can be transmitted in any format IPv4, IPV6 or PPP. GTP ' (GTP Prime) uses the same information structure as GTP-C,GTP-U, but it has a separate function. It can be used to transmit data from a GSM or UMTS CDF (billing data function) to the CGF (Billing gateway feature), which in most cases represents the transfer of data from many independent network elements (such as GGSN) to the central computer, which makes it easier to transfer the billable traffic to the billing center of the carrier.
