Guake Terminal──linux under the perfect and handsome terminal

Today, though, there are many Linux distributions. Ubuntu, for example, has basically been able to use the GUI to complete most of the general tasks.

However, the terminal program is still indispensable for Linux users.

Gnome's gnome-terminal is good, simple, easy to use, and already supports multiple tags. However, suppose you want the terminal to be self-initiated and executed in the background, assuming you prefer to hide and display the terminal at a higher speed. Assuming you're more accustomed to using shortcut keys, Guake is definitely a better choice.

There is an article (http://blog.csdn.net/u013634961/article/details/39534521) that introduces some of the useful terminals under Linux, but the best way to use it is to guake.

What is Guake?

Official statement: Guake is a drop-down terminal for GNOME Desktop environment, so we just need to press a key to invoke him, and Pres s again to hide. Guake supports hotkeys, tabs, background transparent, etc

Translate for example the following: Guake is a drop-down GNOME desktop environment for the terminal program. So you just have to press a key to call him and then press again to hide him.

Guake supports features such as shortcut keys, labels, background transparency, and more.

Objectively speaking, Guake is not much stronger than the default gnome-terminal. But it is much more convenient, especially for those who use the terminal often or sometimes.

If you open more than 5 terminal programs every day, then Guake is better for you.

Installing Guake

Guake is also the software in the Ubuntu software repository that can be installed in the same way as the previous installation of the configuration Editor, or installed using the newly-made Package manager, but can also use the command line: sudo apt-get install Guake.

The use and interface of Guake

After the Guake loads the human memory. You can use two methods to bring up Guake: Use the shortcut key F12 or click the Guake icon in the GNOME Panel notification area. Software interfaces such as the following

Of course, this is I set up the later, this setting is very easy, the right mouse button and then select the preferences can be set according to their own needs:

Shortcut keys and their customization

[Global shortcut key]

F12: Shows/hides the Guake program interface.

[Local shortcut key]

Ctrl+shift+t: Create new tab page;

Ctrl+shift+w: Close the tabs;

Ctrl+shift+c: Copy.

Ctrl+shift+v: Paste.

Ctrl+pageup: Switch to the previous label;

Ctrl+pagedown: Switch to the next tab;

(The above six shortcuts are consistent with the Gnome terminal.) )

F11: Switch to/exit full screen mode.

For some reason. You may need to customize Guake shortcut keys. For example, on my Ubuntu, there is a conflict with the shortcut keys for Hedgewars (an open-source cross-platform game similar to the 2D version of Battle Worms). I decided to change the shortcut keys for the Guake Display/Hide program interface. The default is F12, in order to avoid conflicts with other programs shortcut keys, I decided to use the SUPER+G key combination (because the Linux program uses the Windows logo key less, this key in Ubuntu is the default mapping to Super).

In the program preferences of Guake. You have the ability to define your own keyboard shortcuts. But this feature does not recognize keys right now (ubuntu9.04,guake! 0.3.1; in the new guake! 0.4.0, this issue has been corrected). So we have to use circuitous tactics. Before you go to the next step, make sure you have the configuration Editor for Gnome installed. The Configuration editor is available in Ubuntu's software repository. The ability to select an installation directly from [application] [Add/Remove].

Let Guake start with the system on its own initiative

Navigate to [System] [preferences] [launcher] to open the ' Launcher Preferences ' program and click ' Join ' button. In the pop-up form to fill in the Code name, command and gaze, the command must not be written wrong (can be the program name Guake, can also be the absolute path of the command such as/usr/bin/guake, the proposed use of the former), others can be filled.

Please see:

This will start the boot, the boot directly by F12 can be used. Convenient. Concise, atmosphere, I believe you will love this terminal as well as I do.
