Vsan is a VMware distributed storage that leverages the local mechanical and SSD disks of the ESXi server to form a shared storage that can be accessed by each host within the same cluster. The ESXI hosts in the cluster need to enable Vsan functionality, and the hardware needs to meet the following requirements:

1. At least 1 SSD disks

2. At least 1 traditional mechanical disks

3. Physical network card used for dedicated Vsan data transfer (10G NIC recommended)

ESXi Host hardware configuration

The virtual ESXi host hardware configuration for my test environment is not as follows:

1. Virtual Machine CPU: Tick "Hardware virtualization". When this option is checked, the virtual ESXi host can run 64-bit operating systems. This action can only be displayed on the Web client. "Cpu/mmu virtualization" tick "Hardware CPU and MMU", that is, both CPU and memory use hardware-assisted virtualization.

2. Configure 3 drives, hard disk 1 is the system disk, install the ESXi operating system. HDD 2 and HDD 4 are traditional mechanical hard drives, respectively 200G. HDD 3 is an SSD drive with a capacity of 70G.

3. ESXi host a total of 5 network cards, network card 1 and network card 2 for Vmotion and management, and 1GB network card. Nic 3 is a 10Gb network card for the Vsan network card. Network card 4 and network card 5 is the virtual machine business card, 1Gb network card. Management and Vmotion are placed on the same virtual standard switch Vswitch0,vsan network placed in a separate virtual standard switch vSwitch1, while the business network uses a distributed switch that integrates with NSX for network virtualization.
