Nearly a period of time, many traditional UTM manufacturers frequently released high-end products-first SonicWALL release 4G products, after the industry's eldest Fortinet thrown 26G of the top UTM. Some analysts pointed out that the emergence of high-performance UTM is not a long time, this is a long-term security manufacturers brewing. Because with the performance of new UTM products more and more high, the future security Gateway market pattern is likely to change.
Earlier, Gartner, the vice president of global security and special ventures, said that with the growing threat of mixed attacks, and with the spread of bandwidth-intensive applications such as next-generation Web 2.0, VoIP and IPTV, Enterprise and service providers need more high-performance security products to meet their current and future needs.
And the founder and chief research analyst of It-harvest, an independent IT research institute, argues that since few security vendors are able to meet the challenge, some traditional users have had to choose between security and performance in their next-generation networks. UTM, he stressed, was a wordless expression of the focus of the application.
In this regard, Fortinet global chief market officer Richard Stiennon, in an exclusive interview with this newspaper, said that it is taking into account the needs of users, they launched to provide up to 26G firewall performance of UTM products-fortigate 3810A and 3016B. Of course, he admits that performance will fall below 50% when the full feature is turned on, but he believes it still meets demand, including deploying this high-end UTM to the enterprise's network core and data center, which is three times times more performance than traditional products.
Some experts point out that there are technical reasons for the emergence of high-end UTM, since 2007, the CP content processor specifically developed for security products (including the new NP network processor) has been shipped in large quantities. Like SonicWALL, the high-end UTM is equipped with a 16-core CP processor developed by Third-party vendors, and Fortinet is equipped with a new ASIC based CP6 and NP2 processor. The use of these security-specific processors also provides support for high-end UTM from a technical level.
Interestingly, the advent of high-end UTM is only the beginning. According to IDC's recent disclosures, Juniper, Crossbeam, and Check Point also have plans to launch similar products. In addition, Fortinet China sales director Sheng to reporters that the current market high-end UTM have achieved more than gigabit throughput rate, including the speed of the firewall and wire-speed VPN support, which greatly reduces the sensitivity of the application of the network delay or jitter impact.
In other words, the advent of high-end UTM can help enterprise users implement technical solutions from remote offices to rack based, integrated management and reporting capabilities. And this also in an intangible impetus to the high-end UTM gateway security backbone of the development of power. In a sense, the days of high-end UTM replacing high-end firewalls and VPNs are no longer far off.
