Microsoft released Windows on November 20, 1985. The original Windows was simply a graphical interface for MS-DOS systems to facilitate user understanding. Windows was originally called the "Interface Manager" (Interface Manage), but Microsoft finally decided to rename the product "Windows".
Windows 2 started on sale on December 9, 1987. window overlays, desktop icons, keyboard shortcuts, and control panels appear for the first time in this release.
May 22, 1990, Windows 3 unveiled. This is the first successful version of Windows that sold 10 million copies in two years. Windows 3.0 supports 16-bit color, which greatly improves the interface design of the system. Program Manager, File Manager, card games, Hearts and minesweeper are available with the system.
Windows entered the modern computer age on July 27, 1993. Windows NT is a new 32-bit operating system that can support better PC hardware. The system is mainly for commercial computers and servers. NT introduced the standard program interface for Windows until Windows 8.
August 24, 1995, the release of Windows 95 caused a sensation. The system sold 7 million copies within 5 weeks of its release. The system interface is re-modified, the Start menu first appears, and the desktop is redesigned. After Windows 95 was released, there was no significant change in the appearance of the Windows system. IE browser also appears with this system.
June 25, 1998, Windows 98 unveiled. The system supports DVD playback and adds a Quick Launch bar-a feature that allows users to launch popular programs. Windows 98 is also the first Windows system that natively supports USB interfaces (Windows 95 needs to be updated before it can be supported).
February 17, 2000, Windows 2000 was released. As a successor to Windows NT, most of the system is installed in a commercial PC. This is the last Windows system to be developed for the enterprise, and the subsequent release of Windows XP provides a different version for consumers and business users, respectively.
September 14, 2000, Microsoft launches Windows ME. The system has been criticized for too many flaws, but it has introduced many new features to the Windows system, such as CD burner, photo Viewer. Windows me is the last version of an MS-DOS-based operating system, and the sales cycle is only one year old.
October 25, 2001, a big success, but also popular operating system Windows XP released. Windows XP's Blue interface quickly won the favor of consumers. Windows XP introduces new features including a two-bar Start menu, online security updates, a Network Setup wizard, Windows Messenger, and Remote Desktop.
Windows Vista was born on November 8, 2006 and became the most reviled version of Windows history. The criticism of the system mainly includes slow running of software, bloated function and low battery life of notebook computer. But its security has been greatly improved. Microsoft also added a translucent glass-effect Aero window theme to the system.
July 22, 2009, Windows 7 was released. It removed many of Vista's bloated features. The Show Desktop button allows the user to hide the window to view the desktop. Microsoft completely redesigned the Windows 7 taskbar, replacing the tags with icons. Users can lock programs on the taskbar to preview open windows.
Windows 8, as a major update to Windows, was released on October 26, 2012. The system does not display the desktop by default when it starts, but a new "tile" start screen, which brings users a little confusion. Microsoft released a newer version of Windows 8.1 as users criticized Windows 8 for lack of ease of use.
Microsoft plans to release Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. Will fix many of the errors that Windows 8 has committed. New features include: Cortana voice search, new Action Center, New Edge browser, virtual desktop, and Windows Hello Secure landing.
