First, the virtual machine's network connection is set to "Host-only":

Then see the VMnet1 IP address in the cmd window, this is 192.168.254.1

Next set up the network card address in Linux, and VMnet1 a network segment, here is set 192.168.254.100

At this point, however, the cmd window pings the virtual machine NIC address that was just set up:

The workaround is to:

1. First close the host's firewall (in Control Panel)

2. Shut down the virtual machine's firewall: Chkconfig iptables off

At this point, ping 192.168 again. 254.100:
