Spot colors are special premixed dusk used to replace or supplement process-color (CMYK) inks. Each spot color requires a special printing plate when it is printed. (Because printing si cho ink oil also requires a separate plate, it is also considered a spot color.) )
Assign a spot color to the image in the following ways:
· To apply a spot color as a hue to the entire image, convert the image to Duotone mode and apply a spot color to one of the duotone plates. You can use up to four spot colors, one for each plate.
· To use spot colors for specific areas of the image, you must create a spot color channel. The spot color channel lets you add and preview spot colors in the image. The following guidelines help you use spot-color channels:
★ If you need a spot-color graphic with sharp edges and discard the image below, consider creating additional artwork in the page layout or illustration application.
★ You can create a new spot color channel or convert an existing Alpha channel to a spot color channel.
★ Like Alpha channels, you can edit or delete spot channels at any time.
★ Spot colors cannot be applied to a single layer.
★ Spot colors are embossed on top of a fully composite image.
★ If you print an image containing a spot color channel to a composite printer, the spot color will be printed as an additional page.
★ You can combine a spot color channel with a color channel to separate the spot color into its color channel component. Merging spot channels lets you print a single page proof of spot color images on your desktop printer
★ The name of the spot color is printed on the Separations page.
★ Each spot color channel is printed in the order in which it is displayed in the Channel palette.
★ You cannot move a spot color channel above the default channel in the Channel palette unless you are in multichannel mode. To move the spot channels in the channel palette so that they are printed before other plates, the image is converted to multichannel mode.
