How do I use the SPICE client (virt-viewer) to connect to the remote virtual machine desktop?
What is Spice?
SPICE (Simple Protocol for independent Computing environments) is a communication protocol used in virtualized environments. This protocol connects to the virtual desktop on the virtualization platform via the Internet. Simply put, in a master-slave architecture (Client-server model), a virtual machine station can be viewed as a server, and the client is connected to the virtual machine through the SPICE clients.
The SPICE server has been installed in the virtual machine workstation and is used only by QVM in the Mixed desktop workstation (Hybriddesk station related messages). Compared with the browser connection (HTML5) or other VNC client software, QVM through the external HDMI, not only supports the virtual machine audio source output and has a better image display. However, since the official SPICE does not currently support simultaneous multiple online to a single virtual machine desktop, only one consumer is supported online. So when you go online through the SPICE client to the QVM in the hybrid desktop workstation, you get control of the virtual machine desktop, and the original user is forced to unregister the QVM.
Note: To use the QVM feature, install the hybrid desktop Workstation (Hybirddesk station) first.
Steps:
- Please set the virtual machine to QVM to support SPICE client online. Please refer to any of the following ways to set up:
A. Please start the virtual machine station, click " ", the button will be displayed as " ".
B. Select the virtual machine you want to set up and go to the Virtual Machine Information page and tick "Local Display".
- Download and install SPICE client (virt-viewer)
You can download the following installation files on the SPICE website:
- Virt-viewer Windows installer-32 bit
- Virt-viewer Windows installer-64 bit
- Get QVM Port
The QVM port can be queried in the following two locations:
- Move the mouse to the Console button on the Virtual Machine Information page
- "Console Port" in the Virtual machine settings
- Execute Virt-viewer and go online to the virtual machine desktop
To start Virt-viewer, in the Connection Address field, enter: "spice://: QVM Port", for example: spice://192.168.1.1:5901 and click "Connect".
- Enter the virtual machine password
Since SPICE only supports single online, you can go directly online to the virtual desktop when the virtual machine is not being used in a hybrid desktop workstation. However, if you are using:
- If the virtual machine has no password set, enter the SPICE client default password "@admin" to connect to the virtual machine desktop
- If the virtual machine has a set password, enter your password and add "@admin". For example, if your password is "1234", enter "[email protected]".
