Tool Method--Use magic wand tool to replace background skillfully

Knowledge Tip: Magic wand tool is mainly to enable users to choose a color consistent area (for example, a red flower) or the background of the more monotonous picture, without having to track its contour. The Magic Wand Tool chooses a color range that can be controlled by the value of the error range parameter in the Tools Options bar. Note that you cannot use the Magic wand in bitmap mode images.

Here we will explain with an example. Open a photo in Photoshop, as shown in Figure 1. We first analyze this picture, its background is relatively dim, and the background color is similar, then in this case we can use the method of removing the background to achieve the figure.

Figure 1 The idea behind this example is to use the Magic wand tool to select most of the background, and then use the method to add a selection or delete a selection. If you do not select the details, use the Lasso tool or the magnetic lasso tool to complete.

1. After you open the photo in the Photoshop CS Chinese version, click the Magic Wand tool in the toolbox, and then set the tolerance parameter value to 50 in the tool options bar that appears. Then click the left mouse button on the background to get most of the background selections. For noncontiguous selections, we can select the Magic Wand tool by clicking the Add to Selection icon in its tool options bar or by holding down the SHIFT key on the keyboard and clicking on the other places you want to select, as shown in Figure 2.

2. Next we select the background. Click the Zoom tool in the toolbox to enlarge parts of the photo. The selection of the background area is further increased by using the Magic Wand tool to click on a background area that is not selected when the Add to Selection icon is selected in the Magic Wand tool options bar and the error tolerance parameter value is appropriately changed.

Tip: If you choose with the Magic Wand tool, select a part of the character's area, then use the Magnetic Lasso tool, click the subtract from Selection icon in the tool options bar that appears, and then select the selection. For small areas in the background that are not selected, you can use the Lasso tool and select the Add to Selection icon.

3. The next step is to extract the characters. You can select a character by clicking the select → deselect command in the menu bar or by ctrl+shift+i the shortcut key. Then press the "CTRL + C" key to copy the characters, press the "CTRL + V" key to paste the characters into a new layer 1, as shown in Figure 3.

4. Detail modification. Select the layer 1 that holds the characters, zoom in with the Zoom tool, and use the Eraser tool in the toolbox to erase the edges of the highlighted jagged part. Next, press the CTRL key and click on the character to select the characters you want to extract, click the select → feather command in the menu bar, or press the shortcut key "Alt+ctrl+d" to open the Feather dialog box, enter the feather parameter value 2, and click the OK button. The edge of the entire character will appear soft and not too blunt.

Tip: When feathering, adjust the feather parameter value, mainly to see the selected characters or objects edge roughness. If the edges of the character or object are coarser, the feather parameter values can be adjusted appropriately.

5. Add the background. Click on the "file → open" command in the menu bar to find a nice background image in the search area, and add the characters you've extracted before to the background file to adjust the position and size. Then click the "image → adjust → brightness/contrast" command in the menu bar to open the Brightness/Contrast dialog box, adjust the brightness of the character to fit the background, and the final effect is shown in Figure 7.

Knowledge Point Summary: When we pull the image, it is often difficult to distinguish between the selected region and the area that has not been selected. In this case, we can save the selected selection to a new layer, and then select it again to step through the unwanted parts. For difficult details, you can use the Eraser tool for trimming.
