Method One:

Method Two:

Click Start, and then click Run

In the Open box, type Winmsd.exe, and then click OK

Locate processor in the right pane under projects. Note the value.

If "Processor" corresponds to a value that starts with "x86," the computer is running a 32-bit version of the Windows operating system.

If "Processor" corresponds to a value that starts with "ia64," the computer is running a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system.

Or: In the System Summary right pane, locate the system type

If X86 PC is displayed, the computer is running a 32-bit version of the Windows operating system;

If you are an Itanium based system, the computer is running a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system.

Method Three:

Start > Run type "cmd" command

Then enter "SystemInfo" in the Command Prompt window and press ENTER

If your system is 64-bit, it is clearly labeled "x64 Edition" after the "OS name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional" line, or your system is 32-bit.
