How does IBM connect the mainframe with cloud computing?

IBM's large machines are looking for new looks. They have upgraded to the private cloud and hybrid cloud markets, providing faster processing capabilities, lower prices, and improved memory.

The new zEnterprise mainframe is zEC12 and the processor is 5.5 GHz, which is much better than z196. IBM also extended level 2, level 3, and Level 4 buffering and improved boot settings. This means that zEC12 is faster than z196 and can run more data.

These changes show IBM's attempts at a variety of new loads. Joe Clabby, president of Clabby Analytics, believes that this is partly due to the long-term survival of the mainframe and the impression that the mainframe is a "Heritage.

Clabby said: "In the past decade, IBM has started to change, introducing an open operating environment (Linux), and trying to support new applications on the mainframe ." Some of these new applications are Java, some are enterprise business applications, and analysis software. This means that IBM covers all basic applications and leaves sufficient space for cloud applications, he said.

Clabby found that the price/performance license is reduced by 2% to 7% in standard MIPS loads. "This means that IBM wants to return to existing customers at a low price and encourages customers to provide space for new loads on System Z ."

Another improvement made analysts excited. IBM introduced solid-state memory, known as "Flash Express", which is used to handle new levels of memory, faster than external disks. The above is what Marc Wambeke wrote in his blog.

Insert a pair through PCI Express. Each configuration provides 1.6 terabytes storage, which can be up to 4 pairs, or 6.4 TB for each system.

According to IBM, the introduction of Flash Express has nothing to do with the recent acquisition of Texas Memory Systems. The company declined to answer whether to introduce the TMS card to the mainframe.

Another new feature may attract people who need monitoring, namely IBM's new billing Monitoring Tool System Z Advanced Workload Analysis Reporter (zAware ). This tool aggregates data from the system and compiles it into a unique behavior pattern for each installation. Clabby said that zAware supports other management tools because the data is transmitted to the XML format.

Of course, other System Z monitoring tools are also doing the same thing as zAware, but according to Wambeke's blog, this is the only tool capable of self-learning.

The zEnterprise EC12 mainframe has four standard and one large edition, which can be reserved on the IBM website.
