How has Ubuntu performance changed over the past two years?

Phoronix recently compared five versions of Ubuntu over the past two years: 11.10, 12.04.2 LTS (long-term supported version), 12.10, 13.04, and 13.10, which are under development, see what has changed in performance.

Keep the default settings for all systems. The video card driver uses the open-source R600 Gallium3D.

In terms of graphics performance, 12.10 is a big low point, but 13.04 and 13.10 are very good this year, and the Open Source support for HD4650 is already in place. 13.10 currently, the pre-installed driver is Mesa 9.1. The official version will be upgraded to Mesa 9.2, and the performance is expected to be better.

The CPU performance of Parboil is slightly fluctuating, but it is still gradually improved.

In general, the performance of Ubuntu is gradually increasing, but some projects have regressed. 13.10 is still under development, and its performance is not too stable. However, the official version is worth looking forward.
