How MySQL modifies the root password

When we use MySQL, we often need to change the root user password for different reasons, this blog mainly describes several ways to modify the root user password.

Before the root password is set:
  • How to SET the password command:
    mysql -u rootmysql>SET PASSWORD FOR ‘root‘@‘localhost‘ = PASSWORD(‘你要设置的密码‘);
  • How to mysqladmin commands:
    mysqladmin -u root password "你要设置的密码"
  • Update to edit the user table directly:
    mysql -u rootmysql> USE mysql;mysql> UPDATE user SET Password = PASSWORD(‘你要设置的密码‘) WHERE user = ‘root‘;mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
After Root has been set:
  • Mysqladmin the way:
    mysqladmin -u root password oldpass "你要设置的新密码"
Root password has been set, but forgot:
mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables&mysql -u root mysqlmysql> UPDATE user SET password = PASSWORD("你要设置的新密码") WHERE user = ‘root‘ ;mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
